One of the most elite NFL offenses, the Green Bay Packers, have exactly zero 5 star players that were in the starting lineup this past season. Most of their players were 2 and 3 star prospects coming out of high school. Some notable examples:
Jordy Nelson 2 star (defensive back)
Randall Cobb 3 star athlete (played quarterback his freshman season)
Davante Adams 2 star
Aaron Rodgers 3 star

Their line is scattered with 2 and 3 Star's, with one 4 star. The other two 4 star players they have that started on offense are Andrew Quarless, and Eddie Lacy. I think it's crazy how much fans over react when we sign a player that is less than a 4 star, like the number of stars a player receives is the end all, be all.

Would you say that these threads outnumber the "(insert player name) got dropped from a 4 star to a 3 star" or "(insert player) just got his 5th star on rivals/espn/ 24/7" or "why do we want (insert player name) because he is a 3 star, when we can have (insert player name) who is a 4 star?

This has been beat to death. It's a stupid point. Percentage-wise 5 and 4 star players succeed at exponentially higher rates. You see more 3/2 stars in the league because there are thousands more 3/2/no-stars out there. This would be like pointing out that there are more millionaires in America that weren't Ivy League grads than those that were, so Ivy League education doesn't translate into success.

Every few hours someone does this exact same stupid thread and it means nothing. Yes, trust offer lists and scouting more than stars. But stars actually do--as a whole--project success.

I enjoy posts like this. Go average out TCU's recruiting rankings the last 5 yrs. Heck go check em out for the last 10 yrs. Now grant it they are not always a top 10 team BUT they have had several ( more than 3) REALLY good teams. Good stuff. Proves that there are some very valuable 3 stars out there. Always is. And sometimes even two stars that are NFL starters. Love it. It doesn't mean the star ratings suck. It just shows that no one can accurately project every player.

Freaking star gazers. They must be posting from outside under the moonlight.

by a lot. Here's the problem with these little, look stars don't matter cause there's no 5* on this or that NFL team. Each year there's only 30-35 players that are rated 5*, but a few hundred that are 4*s and thousands that are 3* and below. The law of averages should tell you there will be fewer 5*'s in the NFL

Look, that's good and all, but 33 5 stars compared to a gazillion 2 and 3 stars, there's bound to be a ton of guys who developed later.

Can you win a Super Bowl with a bunch of 3 stars, sure because if you made it in the NFL, you are already an elite player. You are pretty much already physically developed once you enter the NFL. As an NFL player, it's becomes more about mental development. Can you out work the other guy in front of you? The three stars have had that mindset before the NFL.

In college the 5 stars are the ones who have already developed, or whose potential is so great, that it overlooks their raw-er technique. They are usually ahead of the curve which is why they shine over the lesser rated guys. Once you get in the NFL however, everybody has that, plus years of experience mentally.

I can't remember the last team that won the National championship with a bunch of 3 star type players (before the rating system, let's go with "average" players).

i'm impressed that you would take the time and trouble to research an entire roster.

there is plenty of statistical evidence that proves that 4 and 5 star players have a higher success level, on the average, than lower ranked players. it's like the law of large numbers.

of course, the lower ranked guys may just be the "late bloomers" and since we rate these guys when they are 15-17 years old it makes sense. and there are more of the lower ranked guys.

in college, the teams that recruit the most 4 and 5 star guys win more games. look at friggin' bama. ADD the higer rankings with smart player evaluations and good coaching and you get success. a team with 4 and 5 stars and good coaching will be a top team year in and year out.
