Have you worked in a consumer lending company?

I'm considering taking a job at one. Everything would be an immediate upgrade for me. Pay, benefits, afford my own place, live in the same town as my Gf instead of 3 hours away.
My only concern is when you finish your 1 year management training program. You HAVE TO move to wherever they tell you to or else you lose your job.that could be pretty much anywhere in the central time zone. That makes me pretty uncomfortable.
Anybody have an opinion?

Do it. Especially if you're young and able to take risks. And it may turn out that you get a good assignment after a year
Worse case scenario is that you have a good year learning, get a bad assignment, quit, and take that year of learning and parlay it into a better gig there with your boo

Depends on how serious the GF is, and what her career path looks like. Can she pull up stakes and easily find a job elsewhere? Have you progressed to the point where you are discussing a shared future? She may see an anywhere else relocation as a grand adventure, or as the worst idea ever. How she feels may change your relationship for better or worse.

She's a teacher so yeah she could. The relationship is very serious but she's made it known that she's not moving unless we are married. We aren't financially ready for that undertaking yet.

I've thought about that. If I were to quit it scares me that I wouldn't be able to find another job. As someone who took 6 months to find his first legit job after college, the prospect of going back to that lifestyle but with car payements, student loans, insurance and rent seems very frightening.

You'll never be financially ready.
Whenever I hear this, I think its an excuse. If you want to marry the girl, marry her.

I kind of agree. Unless she's under 26 and still on her parents health insurance...or someone else is footing the bill for part of her expenses, how does it cost money to get married? You can elope for very little money, have a nice reception for family & friends when you return for also not much money.
If she won't get married until you (or someone else) can foot the bill for a giant, expensive wedding....then you two need to have a serious discussion about money. Getting married is about the two of you, not about the ostentatious display of wedding trappings.
We need to start a nationwide "run off and get married" movement.
