another Chavis post I know.....but the dude did get too much credit. Steele and the Oger will provide a spark and better D. Chavis had some of the best defensive talent ever assembled over a 5 year period. Talent that other coaches recruited to LSU. I realize he did contact and recruit but it's well know that he wasn't the best or hardest working recruiter.
I for one will be glad not to see 3rd and 8's converted with ease. Watch him struggle at A&M because they don't have the same D talent.
Also the big round mustached coach thing went out in the 80's.

Way to take bits and pieces of everything people have been saying for weeks and regurgitate it all together in a useless thread
the board is a better place because of this thread
oh and this

No problem with Chavis schemes but something was lacking recently with his defenses.
Lack of pass rush
Lack of turnovers
Lack of stops on 3rd and long in crucial situations
Lack of defense to close out games that have cost several victories
I know that's football sometimes and the early entrants thrust players into roles they were not ready for
Sometimes change is good
This defense needs a swift kick in the butt and I believe Coach O will light the fire under these guys

Every one of these things is related to Chavis being too passive with his scheme

Chavis was very passive with his scheme. Not aggressive

We saw his coaching when we beat TN in the SEC championship game.

Can't stop a QB draw.

Not much of a recruiter, but a good DC overall no question. Chavis/Brick or Steele/O, no question better recruiters on Steele/O. X and O's remains to be seen. Fortunately we should know next year on the X and O's question. Right now I'm not upset about the change.
All I'm saying is Chavis is highly respected in the coaching profession. Yes he has always had very good talent...so has Nick Saban
and many on here think Saban is special. He is and Chavis is pretty good at what he does as well. No need to dog him on his concepts, but how it went down is questionable.

With them perfect & TALENTED offense's that Miles fields year in and year out that rank among the WORST in the Country and he's paid a Kings ransom, OH NO let's talk about the guy who's gone, that wasn't paid nearly as much, and produced some of the nations BEST defenses. no wonder our program is where it's at
