Seriously...
Neighbors pretty much took Copelands job in his last season here.
And hasnt the fullback always been a blocking first position? If anything it's morphing into a spot for a utility guy that contributes in a lot of ways, especially in the NFL, like a Marcel Reece. A guy who can carry the ball 10x a game if needed, catch the ball out the backfield, split out wide as a receiver, line up at TE, play on special teams, etc. Gotta be able to contribute in multiple ways and not just as a blocker.

We prob handed it off to the full back more times this year than any other, between. Jones, Williams, Neighbors, and Hilliard we prob ran the full back 25 times

Ducre, who is the number one HS FB coming to LSU will be more of a Hester type running back. Fine blocker but even better running back.

Also DW lined up at FB last year as recall on occasion. We will see about Ducre. I see him as a guy that could play FB and TB. Hell Saban used Addai as a FB sometimes, and he was smaller than the guys we are talking about.

Connor Neighbors was damn good.

Yeah Neighbors rarely missed assignments. He didn't carry it a lot, but he was an excellent blocker.

Welcome to modern football.
Tommy Banks wasn't that great. Good but not great.
Yeah I said it.

189 carries in 9 years. That hardly makes him Mike Alstott.

Do we have any currently on our recruiting radar?
Didn't we sign one of the top FB in the country per 247? And he is already enrolled I believe.

And why is the fullback rarely the back who is actually the farthest back from the line of scrimmage?
Quarterback is appropriately closest to the line of scrimmage.
But full backs don't ever seem to be "fully" back.

Tommy Banks,
Always thought he didn't get the ball enough. He gained over 2,300 yards as a Sr. in HS, and we used him as a blocking back (mostly).

Yeah let's take away more carries from Faulk and Mealey and give it to the huge white guy more often. He got him a buncha yards back in high school!!

In time, the position will rise again. The thing about the proliferation of the spread is that the teams that are sticking to the power run game are becoming unique among their peers. As defenses re-tool to fight the spread with nickel defenses and lightweight linebackers, they are losing the ability to defend the power attack. Fullbacks will come back into play again as offenses realize the future opportunity awaiting teams that run effectively.
Smart post, and dead on!

Well when you have the horses we do in the backfield why you would be giving the fullback a decent amount of carries is beyond me.
Unless you've got a running back lined up as an up-back.
up-backs should be used for blocking and catching passes in the flat on boot-actions.

So you prefer FEWER weapons, rather than more. Got it.
