This sucker was 16 inches. Probably about 2.5 lbs. We ate him. Oh well.

Yet another black. People, the 2.6 thing applies to whites

I don't care... I just wanted to brag

I'm gonna weigh in a long-nose gar next time I catch one. At least I can say I had the record for a little while.

I would be intrigued to see what a 20 pound choupique looks like.

I've eaten a few of those after I took a hundred pictures. Next time, I am getting on that list.
I don't think most people realize how big a 2#, much less a 2.6# sac-au-lait is. We are talking 18" to bust the top 10. That's a HUGE sac-au-lait. Big slabs weigh less per length than bass and often less than you think. I have caught my fair share of slabs over 16", but can honestly say I've only caught 1 that would have approached the 2.6# mark and it was in a private oxbow.

A lot of "2 and 3 pound sac-au-lait" end up being 15 oz. to 1.3 pounds once they're placed on a scale.
Lots of 15"-16" sac-au-lait are under 1.75 lb/

Here is a chart of 6 slabs caught a couple Februarys ago:
I didn't have any true giants to weigh but it gives you an idea of what big sac-au-lait really weigh.

OK, so I'll start paying attention to 15 inchers. I had two whites get off right at the boat last year that were the biggest I had ever seen. No school either. Only two bites I got in that area, and I had been catching blacks all morning in other places.

It probably has a lot to do with the fact that a) some bodies of water only hold predominantly one type and b) often times the techniques and location used to target either black/white isn't conducive to catching the other even within the same body of water so likely most people catch nearly exclusively one over the other.

Yup.
Spring Bayou, Indian Creek and TB, I catch almost exclusively blacks.
Saline is about 90/10 black to white.
I cannot catch one anywhere else
