Hot water heater question
Posted by PurpleHaze583 on 1/22/15 at 6:43 pm01
I have a gas water heater supplying hot water to 2 beds and 2 baths. Had the hot water turned on and it was fine for the first 10 minutes and then the water turned cold. Checked the pilot light and burner and both are fired up. Everything seems to be intact but there's no hot water going to any of the hot faucets. Any thoughts on what might be the problem?
TIA
TIA

Does dip tube ruin the whole thing?

What size heater? How old is it? Was it working fine for a while and this just happened?

Why do you need hot water in 2 beds?
If it's only giving you 10 minutes of water, it's probably full of sediment.

Could be this. Try draining it from bottom valve, you will need to open pressure release valve and need to turn off water supply. After it drains, turn on water supply and let it fill up, repeat drain process. Keep doing until sediment stops coming out.

Welp, that's actually what the appliance does. The water is made hot and continously heated to keep hot... so...

Commercial dishwashers often heat 110 water hotter to clean dishes at 140 degrees.
Booster heaters aren't unheard.

Take out some cash from the automatic teller machine machine and buy a new one that's not full of sediment.
