Why have a dedicated TEs coach instead of a QB coach?

Seems like the WRs coach could coach TEs? Or, in LSU's offense, the OLine coach.

Why not put more of a focus on QBs than on TEs? I get that the OC works with QBs, but at LSU, we need all the help we can get for the most important position on the field.

Thoughts?

Seems like it would help with offensive recruiting overall too. Have the QB coach also go after offensive recruits from a more high profile position than the TE coach.

Cameron is OC/QBs coach.

Just as Chavis was DC/LB coach.

Ensminger, Cameron, and Kragthorpe ALL have experience in coaching QBs.

I think Kragthorpe, Cameron and Ensminger all contribute to coaching the QB individually

I know that Ensminger played QB and I know what Cameron and Kragthorpe do. It just seems like it would be good to have a dedicated coach on staff as a QB guru to only work with the QBs.

And, of course, Cameron would work with them too. Maybe that isn't necessary, but they often have this in the pros and we have a TEs coach. I have no idea why.

because the TEs in CLM system have to learn so many passing routes

Like this guy?

Whitfield’s respect for Cameron -- now entering his second season as LSU’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after a decade in the NFL as a coordinator and head coach -- traces back more than 20 years. He first worked with Cameron as a pupil, picked his brain as a graduate assistant at Iowa and later interned under Cameron with the San Diego Chargers, where he learned about the importance of attention to detail.

Yeah, like that guy.

But, on staff and with the QBs on the field during games instead of in the booth and working with them during the season and camp.

A trend that at least goes back to Jimbo Fisher in 2000.

What do you think Cam does at practice? You think he walks around and checks out every group during practice and leaves the QBs to do whatever? What about watching film? Think he only watches film with the entire offense and that our QBs breakdown film by themselves? .

No. He's with the QBs all practice long. And he watches / breakdowns film with the QBs as well.

Why do people have such a hard time understanding this? I mean nobody brings it up with our D when we head Chavis... Nobody said we need someone to coach the LBers because Chief was the DC.

It is not a coaching issue.......

I suspect Ensminger's primary role is recruiting and contributing to the plan and implementation of the overall offense. He has been an OC in the past. He is probably the TE coach more or less in title only. While I'm sure he does help coach the TEs, I doubt that is the main reason he is on staff. Kind of like Wilson. He is the RB coach (and he does coach the RBs) but the reality is that he is on this staff primarily to recruit.

I'm sure you could have a dedicated QBs coach, but I doubt it would make any significance difference. It's not like Cameron is ignoring the QBs. They are the most important players on the offense.

Lighten up Francis. I think the OP is pointing out the humor and irony in having a dedicated TE's coach and no dedicated QB coach. You see in football a quarterback throws a ball in hopes that a Tight end will have run a precise route and have been coached on how to catch said ball...

Makes sense that Ensminger works with the QBs. They throw like TEs.
