when we already have Felipe committed?

I just can't see us justifying to Shea to be 'the guy' when we've already proven we want another QB in the same class.

Competition isn't unreasonable.

While it would probably be better if the QB recruits were staggered a year apart, he'll face competition at any top program he goes to.

Look at all of the talent around you. With only half a brain we can send you to the NFL.

I've never understood why it has always been so difficult for LSU to constantly have to work so hard to find a half decent QB.

Our Qb's were 48% last year, anybody can start at LSU and do better than we did last year.

Have you seen LSU's QB play every year since 2007 (with the exception of 2013) be better than that and you can start for 4 years....

The following is a list of 5* QBs to come out of either Texas or Louisiana since Vince Young (2002) and the school they signed with:

tx-Rhett Bomar, ok
la-Ryan Perriloux, lsu
tx-Matthew Stafford, uga
tx-Ryan Mallett, mich
tx-Russell Shepard, lsu
tx-Garrett Gilbert, tx

There hasn't been one since 2009.

There just haven't been a lot of good QBs coming out of our traditional QB recruiting grounds in the past 5 years or so.

Duckie's 2 step process to sign Shea:

1. Don't let OM hire his brother;

2. Hire his brother as QB coach when they allow another assistant on staff.

a guy like Shea doesn't care about competition. He knows he can win the job.

But that's the thing, they don't have to be that caliber of a QB. All they have to do is sit back and complete 15-20 passes a game and not turn the ball over...

They just have to do enough to open up the run and let our RB's and O-Line go to work. Sure they have to make a big play on their own every now and then but with our WR's it shouldn't be as hard as we make it for ourselves in our current situation.

they are different QB's

if they are both good enough to play, they'll likely play

This thread is about Patterson, so I'll be very brief and not hijack the thread.

1. LA high school QB development is god-awful.
2. LSU has started a 2nd year QB in a complex system 4 of the last 7 years.
3. In 2 of the remaining 3 years, LSU has ranked in the Top 20 nationally in passer rating.

They have had to dumb our system down to fit Jennings capabilities...hopefully this offseason will be big for him and Harris. But regardless that's kind of what I'm getting at when I say we just need someone with half a brain.

So our pitch to Patterson would be hey look at all of these freak athlete we have. All we need is you to come in and do X for us and we can seriously compete for a NC and put you in the national spotlight which would lead you straight to the NFL.

What's not to like..

If the coaches are smart, they aren't recruiting him like this. Every successful QB we've had has been brought along slowly.

Rohan Davey - Redshirt Senior
Jamarcus Russell - Redshirt Sophomore
Matt Flynn - Redshirt Senior
Zach Mettenberger - Redshirt Junior (1 year at LSU)

Hell, even Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson put up respectable numbers as Seniors.

With Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris in front of him, the smart money is for Patterson to redshirt, learn the offense, develop as a passer, and then inherit the starting job when Harris graduates in 2018.

I have no problem with that. I'm not saying come in right away and start I'm just saying look at these guys around you. The possibilities are endless.
