I just read the SEC Recruiting thread on Ford; one Vol poster listed names of 9 kids that he said Butch pulled their offers. Nine. Poster said it was no big deal. I must be really out of touch because that seems really excessive even by Saban standards.

How many scholarships does each school get? I was under the impression that there was a 25 man limit, but it seems like a few schools have passed that mark. Tennessee you say has 28
are you allowed this many under certain circumstances or is just an insurance pad in case someone flips?
I'm sure someone will correct me if incorrect but I believe this is the current scholarship rule...at least within the SEC.
1) assuming no probation, 85 maximum football players on scholarship every minute of every day of a year
2) you can only sign 25 on NSD for scholarships which is the first Wednesday of Feburary (if a guy ends up not graduating from HS after that, your problem)
3) however, IF you did not utilize your 25 from the previous year or I believe if you did but some of them flunked out of school, then you can pad up to that 25 number with early enrollees (EE) which used to be mainly JUCO guys but more HS seniors graduate now in December also.
Thus, the 28 you mentioned at TN is really 10 early enrollees and 18 commits for that 1st Wednesday signing in Feb. I looked back at their 2014 class and they had 32 enrollees but remember... some of those guys were probably EE and thus counted some of those back to 2013 class if it was short...also maybe some of those guys flunked out, etc. Regardless, they can count no more than 25 of their current 28 against this class that will sign in about 2 weeks. They must count any over that against the previous class...assuming there is room for that year and also must stay under the total limit of 85 at all time.

Pretty good summary.
What about the guys that sign but aren't going to have the grades? Is that still valid? IE, sign 27 but you're pretty sure 2 of those 27 aren't going to be eligible.

Unless the SEC changed it back again, you can only sign 25 for a class. Thus, if you sign 25 and only 24 qualify, you just lost a potential addition to that class...until next class of course when you can count an EE back to this class. That was one of the main reasons the SEC quit that crap. Teams like Ole Miss and S Carolina were signing like 32 a year knowing that only 25 would actually qualify. But they got the advantage of being to place those 7 guys into JUCO giving them a recruiting advantage when the reemerged from JUCO.
