Why was John Rich fired from Lonestar?

If I remember correctly, when the first album was released John Rich and Richie McDonald shared lead singer duties - John on some songs, Richie on the others. All of the singles released were the ones featuring Richie, and he became the face of the band, so John moved on/was let go as they didn't need a second lead singer.
