Is Greensleeves the most popular song in human history? It was first registered in 1580 wiki and is still being remade. I found myself humming it today and wondered if there were any other songs that old and that popular?

Twinkle twinkle melody is from 1761, Happy Birthday song is supposedly from 1893. Both far newer than Greensleeves.

'When a Man Loves a Woman' might be the most recognizable song in English.

"Happy Birthday" was spread around the world by GIs in WWII. It transcends cultures in a way that something like "Silent Night" cannot.

It would be my choice.

By most popular in history I mean the song that has been heard by the most people ever, living or dead. An extra 200 years of human lives will make a difference, especially since its still heard by many, many people today. I know Greensleeves is usually taught to grade school children these days so I assume that a lot of modern people have heard it as well as a lot of people that are now dead.

I've never heard of it either. My vote would be for Happy Birthday.
