No good. He needs to take a huge pay cut or be dismissed altogether. Love the guy and what he has done for us but this is solely a business decision.

Yea, I'm not sure a "mild" pay cut will be enough

We save $4.3 million by cutting him and lose $5.4 million in dead money. We'd also have to find a replacement for him too which would cost, at best, $500k. So is he worth $3.8 million-a mild pay cut?

Yes. A mild pay cut structured the right way should work just fine. You can't just look at his cost. You also have to look at the cost to replacing him and the FA market.

Next year, we save $7 million by cutting him with only $2.7 in dead money

I'd let him walk and free up some money.

Except that it might not even free up money depending on the pay cut and structure

I'd prefer this over dead money cut.

For all we know, he was hampered this season.

6.9mil base salary. I'm gonna go with 2mil pay cut and that is more than enough to keep him around. he is still valuable in this system.

"Mild" better mean as close to vet minimum as possible considering he has been pretty off for a couple years. The drops and fumbles have been as inopportune as Brees' pick 6's.
