think the one criticism of Thibs defense is that it often has players like Noah pulled away from the basket

There's been some of that this year, but not because of the scheme. Rather that Noah has to guard 4s (and stretch 4s) because Gasol can't move anymore.

Thibs scheme has revolutionized modern NBA defense the way D'Antoni did to offense. Most teams use his principles. 2 links to Lowe pieces on his defense and the way his defense forced offenses to change,

Thibs is a great, great coach. But I don't want him running Davis ragged. You get him to agree to keep Davis at 34-36 MPG, I'm in. Otherwise Davis and the next decade of his career are too valuable to play around with.

I think the too many minutes is overblown, outside of Butler there is nobody on that team worth a damn at SG so he plays 39.5mpg. Even the other big players play reasonable minutes.

Gasol plays 35 mpg, Noah plays 30 mpg, Gibson plays 28 mpg, and Mirotic plays 18mpg.

Rose plays 30mpg, Hinrich plays 27.5mpg, and Brooks plays 20mpg.

Dunleavy plays 29.5mpg, Snell plays 13mpg, and McDermott plays 11mpg.

I think over the past few years, it bears out. Noah and Deng played tons of minutes since he got there.

I get that his options are limited and he feels he has to ride some guys. And I admire his desire to win and his ability to do so. A hell of a coach.

But, to me, part of being a coach is taking care of your players. These guys will rarely ever ask out. He has to protect them. 82 games is a grind. Having enough juice in the playoffs is a concern, especially in the West. Compound that year over year and it takes a toll on even a supremely conditioned athlete,

I mean, anything is an upgrade from Monty, and this would certain be a huge upgrade, but I'm not that big on Thibs as a head coach. He's basically the defensive version of D'Antoni, and with a talent like AD, I don't trust him in the least to manage his minutes correctly.

I'd prefer Karl over Thibs without hesitation, I don't think it's close.

Bring in Thibs. Let him push the players and teach the defense and be the guy that forges the core of this team until they break. Then let him walk in two years and let a guy like Spolestra, Rivers, Carlisle or maybe Stevens come in and polish us into a championship team year in and year out.

What the actual frick?

You call Thibs a defensive version of D'Antoni, then you say you'd prefer D'Antoni light. Thibs would be a no-brainer for me.

It'd be nice, but I can't see him coming to New Orleans

He would have been our head coach before if Chicago's annoying arse hadn't of swooped in and snagged him. He was Option A. Monty was Option B. And holy crap if you want to talk about jumping off a cliff...

Monty has done his job, and I will always be thankful to him. He coached this team to the Lottery Title by winning the perfect amount of games for one of the best prospects since LBJ. I mean if we don't tie Cleveland and lose that coin flip, we still suck. I don't hate the guy.

It's just time to move to the next logical step. The "NBA Title Contender" coach.
