So far, pre-Senior Bowl, pre-Combine, it looks maybe only one CB, Trae Waynes, is deserving of being picked at #13. Gil Brandt said Waynes is better than last years Darqueeze Dennard.

But there are at least 4 OLB/DE types who are worthy of going there.

Of course Randy Gregory of Nebraska and Shane Ray of Missouri will be gone before #13, but either Dante Fowler of Florida or Vic Beasley of Clemson might be there.

At the moment Shaq Thompson is THE guy I want. Super athletic and versatile. Played nickel, safety, line backer, and running back. He is the speed we are missing on defense.

If they had a top notch corner I would put that on par, but this class seems really weak at the top.

Very good player, but looks like a safety and is only 6'1-228 or so. And one AFC North scout said that Thompson got down to 219 late in the season. Where does he play in a 3-4 base defense?

Most of the mocks I've seen have Dupree going somewhere in the 20's.

Lavonte David at the combine measured 6'1 and 233lbs.

If Shaq can put up about 10 more lbs or so and have it stay consistent, I don't see why he wouldn't move up more on the draft boards.

yea a lot will depend on Thompson's weight

yea, we'll know a lot more after they measure. I think Ray could potentially fall to 13. Gregory more then likely wont, considering his elite size for the position

Well that's just it. His weight went down this past season, not up. He played his senior year at 219. One scout on nfl.com even wondered whether Thompson was big enough to play WLB in a 4-3. If that's the case, he sure couldn't play in a 3-4, either outside or inside. I think he's a good player, but I don't see him fitting in our defense.

We really need to trade down and get as many draft picks as possible. I also do not like the idea of getting a big free agent (Iupati)

I agree with you except for Lupati....I know the last high priced guard we paid for in free agency was Grubbs and that hasn't turned out too great, but we can't just think we are cursed from going after another if the coaches think he is a good fit

Love Alvin Dupree OLB Kentucky.
I think you will see him rise after the combine.
If he can cover would love to have him. 4 year team captain.

I really like the idea of trading down. I would hope the Saints can pick up a corner in free agency. Then, they'll get Byrd back at safety and the secondary can round itself out like that with Robinson and KV32 playing nickel and over the TE, respectively.

In the draft, they should focus on an edge rusher and interior lineman. Those positions can usually get on the field quickly as rookies and contribute.
