Avery will probably be better initially. Then once teams figure him out, we'll fall off and he'll end up wasting 3+ years with his mediocrity

It's clear that Monty is way way more of an issue
I totally agree. Both guys were put in a position to fail but Dell has at least shown improvement. Unfortunately we don't have enough time for Monty to learn as we go anymore. Avery might not be my first option but we need a change.

I'm going to repeat what I said in the last thread on this topic: We can't afford to give another shitty coach a clean slate where we have to wait for him to prove he sucks. I would rather keep Monty with his shitty track record knowing that he's piling up evidence of his suckage than bring in Avery and ensuring that we will suck for at least 3 more years. Even if Avery sucks less than Monty, he still sucks and we can't afford to botch this next hire. It will likely be the last one we make before AD sees true free agency. An Avery Johnson hire here would be catastrophic for this franchise. Much worse than keeping Monty an extra year.

Unless you have a proven assistant coach, firing the head guy can totally derail a season. The last thing we want is our young guys not playing for anything. At least Monty will coach them up to the 9/10 seed.
