I never got in on this but yeah...

quote:

Up here a riser is the pipe sticks ground and shoots water out. AKA a well head.

Exactly because it raises the water up and into the pond. Hence it's called a "riser"...

No, but "weir" was one of my early searches. I think I've heard them called that too.

"Flashboard Riser" got the best search results. I think a lot of hunters see them and don't necessarily know what they are called. That's how all the misnomers get started.

Yep, I have a barrel and other material to make the full round riser. I just need to buy a 12" diameter pipe.

Anyone got any tips to connect the PVC pipe to a PVC barrel for a decently watertight connection?

I was thinking of using bondo.

What we have is the permanent pipe is belled at the top. Then use a rubber gasket(kind of wedged edge). Place on top piece to account for whatever height you'll need. Place top piece in bottom and tap it tight

Looking at DU's picture, the pipe connected to the elbow would be at the ground surface. The pipe you place into that pipe ("riser") is what controls depth

Get a PVC one like jimbeam is talking about. Soileau Industries in Ville Platte would be a good source. Another is Plastics Inc. in Rayne and Welsh Equip in Welsh too.

Were draining 4 acres that gets a steady 5gal/sec flow and the 12 inch pipe we tried first was a joke, we went to 24 and are much happier.
