I know the board's general consensus was the place was extremely underwhelming with the food and I agree. I like the location, atmosphere, and vibe. But the food price to quality and quantity was frankly awful.

However, I saw the other day that Scott Varnadoe is on board now. He is one of my favorite chefs in the area. Did my rehearsal dinner when he was at The Myrtles and several people still tell me it was the best meal they ever had.

How long ago did he join? Has it improved since then? Anybody been recently with some thoughts?

It is much better than it was, but I still stand by my original assertion that you have to strategize. There are items there that flat out aren't good, but other than are extremely good. If you get the right things, it can be an awesome experience. Unfortunately, ordering wrong there can be easily done, so the experience can suck.

Also, when he first came to IPO, he added a bunch of really awesome items that I've noticed aren't there anymore.. such as Pork Three Ways.

I love the space, love some of the items, and just love the overall atmosphere. Still.. in the 8ish times I've been, I have yet to have a good drink there. I've tried their entire cocktail menu by now They make some bad cocktails.

Also, service has never been very good. I know that's not something I normally care about, but last time I don't think the server had ever waited tables in his life.. which caused us to be there for much longer than we needed to be.

I still recommend the place a lot because I think it can be done right and be enjoyable, but it is far from perfect :/

I've only been twice and had good experiences. Last time I went was about a year ago, and instead of smaller dishes we went for some large fish dish for two..I don't remember a ton about it but it was definitely satisfying at the time.

Groupon Hurry! Limited time remaining!

FYI for the owners: Using Groupon isn't the image y'all want to have.

Yea, so I called Restaurant IPO and asked if they would accept the groupon during RW and the lady told me yes. When we were seated the waiter tells us they aren't accepting the groupon.

They were very un-prepared for RW, with only 2 servers for the whole restaurant. The food was good, I wont complain about that, but our dinner lasted 2.5 hours for 4 people and the groupon thing rubbed me the wrong way.

I have never had prompt service there either. I don't know if they just aren't strict, or if they don't schedule enough people, or what. My servers have always been friendly, but I get the vibe they've never waited tables. Seem to have no concept of the "priority list" in your head that you're supposed to have.

(Food that is ready to be brought out is #1 of importance, new table seated in your section is #2, etc.)

They were tending to people who just needed dumb stuff like boxes.. or taking food orders.. before greeting new tables in their section. Big no no. It is a fact that simply getting a menu and drink in front of a guest will tide them over. Leaving them sitting at an empty table waiting to be greeted while you take food orders is no bueno.

The Groupon thing is shitty too. Not that you couldn't use it; I figured as much.. but that they told you that you could.

Spot on. Our server was young and kept throwing the kichen under the bus, which might have been true, I'm not sure. I could tell he was trying to save a tip at the end by making conversation with us.

They pissed me off with their Groupon deals. I got a Groupon that was something like $50 for 100 or maybe $40 for $80. It was a lot but I wanted the higher priced one because of how expensive their food is and you have to order a lot. Come to find out, the Groupon was for a table of 4 and IPO would only allow you to use the Groupon if you had 4 people at your table. Not 3, not 2, not 5. ONLY 4! That was the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. We took the inlaws and ended up spending an arm and a leg for 4 people even with the Groupon. Haven't been back since and don't plan to. The food can be good but for that price it should ALL be good and the small plates are entirely too small and/or overpriced. I find that their entrees are horrible.

I'm sure IPO had the option to say yes or no to it, but unfortunately, Groupon does that with numerous restaurants. I've seen them do that before.

Same for $10 for $20 at lunch or $20 for $40 at dinner. You have to use it for lunch if you buy the cheaper one, and vice versa.

Quality review. I know where to rank it based on your past reviews.

Might not be my favorite place, but "sucked arse" has been far from my experiences.

Was there two weeks ago, extremely disappointing. Scott better get it together

Steaks (ribeye) took a while to come out, were over cooked and dry, we all ordered med rare. Only one even looked close to that. The appetizers were okay, we got a little bit of everything. I'd rather have gone to little village.

I will say after visiting overseas I don't expect "prompt" service anymore as long as I am not forgotten and I've started to signal for the waiter/waitress

That's pretty much the modern service standard for most restaurants. Mediocre is the new normal. It's best to go in with low expectations.
