Anyone have experience putting out larger trees using one of those claw machines? My new place is pretty devoid of mature trees (especially considering where I'm moving from) and I'd like to place a decent sized live oak or two. And if anyone knows someone that does this in the Baton Rouge area, please pass them along. After my battle with the record crop of acorns this year, I know I won't plant a white oak again, unless it's deep in the woods of a deer lease.

I've helped a buddy do a few out at his place. Not sure what your asking but the operation was pretty easy. We used a Kubota with a rear bucket ot dig the holes at the new spot. Dug up the tree with the "claw" and dropped them in the new hole.

I have heard that LSU and the city have someone come in with a machine that grabs a big ball of dirt out of the hole and then drop in a pretty mature tree(15-20 feet) from a nursery (Forest Hill?). I don't have access to anything above cheap labor and shovels and I think this is outside those abilities

I can send you a shitload of live oak acorns, some already sprouting

Not anything close to what you're asking but you'll have dozens of live oaks next year

the machine is called a tree spade
you need to hire a professional to do this

Sorry to keep bumping this...I knew this cgrand, I need a referral for someone that does this sort of work.

And if I wasn't an old fart already, I'd plant one of the dozens of white oak acorns that have put their roots down in my flower bed to where the rake won't pull them up.
