When did the networks start promoting the competing networks games.

Heard it several times during the playoffs. Fox just reminded everybody of the afc championship game on cbs. This used to be a big no no. Espn never mentions cbs when talking about the sec game of the week.

The regular networks have been doing this for awhile. ESPN is the only one I recall that doesn't advertise other networks.
TNT and the turner network always alerts viewers about programming on other channels.

they've been doing it for the NFL all season.

I think it's part of their deal with the NFL. I know March Madness has promos for the "family of networks" as well.

All the networks that do march madness are owned by cbs. Much different than fox promoting cbs. It must be an NFL mandate because it doesn't happen in college ball.

Actually, CBS doesn't own Time Warner, they have broadcast synergy agreements in place for special situations and even share "The CW" but aren't merged in principal ownership of all assets.

You're right but they do have a broadcast partnership for the tournament correct?

Yep. It was put in agreement about 9 years ago I think. The deal is in place until about 2020 I think.
