He literally fooled no one...watching a bama defense then watching ours was like going from a ps4 to a 8 bit nintendo. His read and react was about as basic as it gets and his blitzes were as predictable as possible.

Yeah, this is stupid. He developed an excellent defense here at LSU. In this age of football, there's not another university that had the success LSU had against every type of offense. Bama, for example, could not handle spread offenses very well. Chavis handled them all most of the time.

Chavis is an excellent coach. I don't think he's other-worldly, or the best in the business, but he's certainly one of the top ten in the game.

In fairness, if games were 58 minutes long, his D's were pretty good.

You're being too harsh. He was good for 59 minutes!

From now on, he's no longer Chavis or Chief, but "Coach 59." And his 6 year break from being Tiger Bait is over.

The huge problem I have with chavis since 2011 is the lack of "negative plays". There is no excuse for the lack of sacks and quarterback pressure with the horses that we have on the field. QB pressure creates bad throws and makes good db's look great. I am hoping Orgeron will help fix some of this. I think an injection of new blood is some critical for programs some times(Orgeron, Steele)

Agree with your post. Coach 59 was a good DC - very good at times. But we saw a lot of late game collapses. And as you point out, there was a paucity of negative plays.

ever since 2011, chavis defense stunk. This year the defense got better toward the end with the exception of bowl loss. 2013 the offense carried the team most of the time.2011 we did not have any defensive line replacement to NFL and we should have better recruiting for this class.

I was in awe of how ineffective it was against ND. Does that count?

Provided he cared at that point. Which I'm sure he didn't.
