How hard is it to wall mount a TV in the bedroom?

The only have a small tool box with screw drivers, allen wrenches and stuff.... I don't have a drill or anything. Will I need a hand held drill? If so, can I rent it from somewhere if I don't want to buy it? Also is using a stud finder necessary, or can I just tap the dry wall and look for the hollow/solid sound? This will be my first DIY project in our new home..so help a newbie out.

How heavy of a TV are we talking?
What kind of mount are you looking at?

You'll need a drill, stud finder, and wrench or socket set.

Get a drill and stud finder.
Follow wall-mount manufacturer's instructions.

You need to mount the bracket on the studs. If you think you can find without a stud finder, go for it. You really would need some heavy guage screws that could be hand tightened without a drill but would be tough (unless you are Chuck Norris)
What is your strategy for cable management? If you want to run in the wall, that will require more tools.

If you get a superslim TV with the picture hanger type mount you can get by with a screwdriver. But i agree with the others, you'll get plenty more use out of a power drill. Go ahead and get a good one.

The TV is a 40" Samsung LCD TV. The mount we have bought is a tilt mount that is supposed to hold any TV from 30"-55". Here is a link to it: LINK

Wow, ok, so you have a new home and you want to start poking holes in the walls, and you don't own a drill?
Yeah, you're going to need a drill, and you might as well just buy a nice one now. Also, do you have a level? A square? A tape measure? Also, stud finders can be tricky to use properly, and you should NEVER trust just tapping the wall.
But it's not hard. Just make sure you hit the studs, and make sure the bracket is mounted LEVEL.
Plan on running your cables through the wall, too?

Give me some suggestions. I don't want a real fancy one or anything.

I was just going to use an app on my phone.

Okay, I guess I will get one.

This TV will not be hooked up to the cable. We are just planning to use with the Amazon Fire TV stick to stream stuff. As such, the only cables sticking out of the TV should be the power cable for the TV and the power for the Fire TV stick.

quote:I wouldn't trust it, but it's better than nothing. Just double check that your marks are straight with the ceiling before drilling.

quote:They are cheap and handy, as long as you follow the directions for calibrating it and marking the studs. Tip: the stud finder will indicate where the edge of the stud is. Mark both edges, and the marks should be an inch and a half apart. If they aren't, check again. When you mark the second stud, it should be 16" from the other one. If it's not, check again. (There are exceptions to this, of course, but generally in the middle of a large wall this will be the case).
Okay, I guess I will get one.
quote:OK, just asking in case you may have needed tips on that too.

If you already have the mount picked out there should be printed instructions that come with it. Those instructions will tell you what you have to have at minimum. However, having a good power drill will shorten the process. A level will make sure you have it lined up right.
If it is heavy enough to need to be in a stud, you'll need a stud finder. I also wouldn't suggest putting a screw into a stud by hand either. If its going into drywall with anchors, you could get by with the proper screwdriver and screw-in drywall anchors.

To watch TV in bed? I don't think that's a good thing. Read, sleep, or frick.

I've mounted plenty TVs. I use a stud finder then drill a small pilot hole to make sure it's a stud. Then I use a socket wrench to screw in the bolts. After that, it's as easy as it seems.

It's very basic, are you male or female?

Do you have a power outlet at the location behind the tv? If no, and you do not want a power cord running down the wall, I would recommend the below kit or something similar:
