before putting them on the grill?

My father does and swears they come out more tender than not boiling. I am not sure what concoction he uses in his boil but I would like to know.

I used crab boil once, and slapped them in the microwave on high for 10 minutes to get a nice char after boiling.

People kept asking me how I made them. I'd just wink and say, "f&db secret baw."

No but I do brine them.

Boiling them before grilling them is old school.... I personally dont care for them that way.

I've had them like this a few times. They are edible but not my preferred method.

Somebody say boiled meat?

Yes. We have done this many times. Makes the ribs really tender and moist. The crab boil makes them spicy. It will not absorb a lot of smoke but the char is good.

It is old school.
The meat is just too soft. It doesn't hold on to the bone, and has a mushy texture.

My ribs are awesome and just need smoke to be tender.

The meat can get a mushy if you boil it too long

And you boil all the flavor out the ribs.

I slow-cook ribs all the time, but never straight up boil them.

Slow cooked ribs though.

I tried it once a long time ago when I read about boiling them in crab boil to get more flavor. I boiled the water with the crab boil, turned it off and then added the ribs for a good soak. They sucked up some of the crab boil and the flavor was nice, but I didn't care for the texture, so I never did it again. Maybe brining them in some crab boil would do something similar.

Liquid or powder?
I think it was liquid the time I tried it, and I didn't like the flav.

I used the liquid. It was okay with the sauce and seasonings I used on the outside of the ribs. Just made the meat a little more flavored. I wasn't smoking mine that time. Not sure smoking them with that flavor would have worked at all.

pork ribs country style

MUST be boiled in creole, garlic seasoning before you put them in the oven. Then put some good barbeque sauce on and cook in the oven on 375.

Made them last night. tender fall apart meat.

He doesn't really boil them. It's more like simmering in a low heat for a while. I see lots of onion in the water but I'm not sure what else he puts in there. They are fabulous when he takes them off the BBQ pit

So, basically slow-cooking them.

Right. Changed the title to reflect what he's actually doing.

What kind of texture do they have?

I'm not a fan of meat falling off the bone on ribs. I like some pull from the bone for mine. May as well cook boneless if the meat is going to break away.
