There's something I've always wanted to ask you, and people who read this column know very well how I feel professionally about Skip Bayless. In a book on the Cowboys in the 1990s, Bayless had a unsubstantiated claim that you were gay. Over the years you have generally not responded to this but I did read in the Dallas Morning News a couple of years ago that you said, and I quote: “I've not physically seen Skip Bayless since that time. That was in '95. And I still kind of wonder what I might do to him when I do see him.” How much anger today do you feel about what was written in that book?

quote:

Aikman: I’m upset about it because it was made up and there was nothing accurate about anything that was insinuated. And he did it, as he does everything, just for attention. I am probably more upset because I probably should have responded to it at the time it was going on. The advice to me was “Hey, just don’t address it. It’s not worth it. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s ridiculous. All it’s going to do is have people continue to talk about his book.” So I didn’t. But I probably could have responded differently and maybe that would have changed things. Maybe it wouldn’t have. But it is ridiculous, and, yeah, it bothers me. If that is a lifestyle people choose, so be it. It doesn't affect me one way or another. But it is not my lifestyle.

Seems like a fair and reasonable response.

This whole statement is going to bite him. And for some reason seems like something a gay person would say. Or a bible thumper.

A shame that he finally gave Bayless the attention he was seeking after all these years. Not responding was the right move

Now Skip gets 3 weeks of First Take material

It blows my mind that people still watch that show. There are so many better ways to get information on the sport you follow.

what did Hardaway do?

quote:

During a February 14, 2007 interview on a Miami sports radio show, in response to the coming out of former NBA player John Amaechi, Hardaway remarked that he would try to distance himself from a player he knew was homosexual. When asked by the radio show host whether he realized that his remarks were homophobic, Hardaway responded by saying: "Well, you know I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States." He also said that if he found out he had one or more gay teammates, he would try to get them fired.

ETA: google "Tim Hardaway gay" and you'll see it all

He should have said he hates skip because skip is gay. Would have been awesome.

I don't fwiw

I did have a former coworker tell me that Drew Bree's was the ONLY QB in the league that can audible at the line of scrimmage and Brady only changes protections

How does he know this?

Because when they show the highlights on first take, they only show Brady changing the protection and then show Bree's audibling at the line of scrimmage.

That wasn't directed at you. Just in general.

Please tell me you slapped him, or at least ridiculed him until he went home "sick."

Crazy how much the world has changed in just 7 years. He took some criticism but nothing like he would today.
