Chavis didn't recommend that we hire Steele. He recommended TO STEELE that Steele should accept the offer. Not comparable at all.

but with each statement by Wilson, miles , the C himself seems like some disconnect occurred. From a P&G perspective, sounds like chavis might have gotten a little lazy. He's older, maybe just thought he didn't need to do certain things

Steele worked for LSU in 2012 as a consultant. His son was a ga for 3 years here.

No...we weren't a very good team this year. The D wasn't good against MSU, but we had 10 points going into the 4th quarter and 7 of them were scored by the D. We had 259 total yards of offense against Bama at home and the D gave our offense the ball at the Bama 6 with just over a minute left. We went 16 yards backwards and 0-4 passing in OT. The D held Bama way under their average. Just because the last minute sucked, it doesn't mean it was their fault we lost. We were in the game because of them. Auburn was also a team loss - the offense and defense sucked. We're not beating anyone scoring 7 or giving up 41. And we don't come close to beating Ole Miss without an unbelievable effort by the D. The offense scored little, but they also played their asses off.

I'm not saying I don't put any blame on the D, but I think the offense has to share the blame. Against MSU, the D scored 7 points and the offense scored 3 going into the 4th quarter. As bad as the D played, that's just sad. We scored two TDs with a minute and change left.
The D was terrible against Auburn. But the offense was 0-13 on third downs against Auburn, had three straight 3-and-outs to open the game and we didn't put Fournette in until the 4th series with Harris making his first start in a hostile environment. It was poor play all around and poor coaching.
I agree that we blew it against Bama and nobody gives a shite about the other 59 minutes when you lose in the last minute. But both sides of the ball blew it in the last 90 seconds. I'm with you on ND. We need to anticipate plays and take more chances on D so we don't give up late leads and big plays on 3rd and long. The coaches had issues like you said.

Different points in their career. Chavis needed one more 4 yr deal to finish his career and retire.

Mike Archer's problem wasn't his coaching ability, it was poor recruiting. LSU's recruiting classes from '85 to '87 really didn't produce many good football players. The '82 class was ranked 30th in the country and next to last ion the SEC but produced players like, Shawn Burks, Roland Barbay, Karl Wilson, Jeff Wickersham, Garry James, Dalton Hilliard. But the '85 to '87 classes didn't produce players of this caliber. That was really what hurt Archer. The inability to lock down recruiting in-state was another reason recruiting classes were weak. Players like Baron Jackson, Cedric Figaro, Tyrone Vaughans, Randy Thornton, Warde Manuel, Mickey Joesph, Pat Stant, all from Louisiana in the early to mid 80's who either went out of state or to Tulane. The addition of some of these players would have made a little difference for Archer, not to mention those I can't think of right now. There was a LB out of Louisiana who went on to Nebraska, I think it was Nebraska, just can't think of his name right now. Can anyone help me with this one. Damn Chemo is screwing with my body and my brain! LOL

i believe chief was just upset with the offense not controlling the ball long enough for his defense to rest. our offense put our defense in bad situations and they were tired being on the field so long

Defense was bad vs Miss St, and showed improvement all year returning only 4 starters, i think he earned his money...Auburn was a bust, everyone was bad...The offense cost us all the games this year because of an incompetent throwing QB and horrific play calling...Face facts the defense kept us in the games...

LSU was #9 in the country in Time of Possession, #2 in the SEC. A&M? 125th, last.
