My boy is 10. He hasn't gotten off a shot yet this year. We hunt in Area 4 & 6. The hunting regulations state:

"Youths 17 or younger may hunt either-sex
deer with any legal weapon during the
Primitive Firearms Season in each deer
hunting area."

I read this to mean that he can use his "high-powered" .243 right up through January 31st. My buddy thinks that it means that he can use any legal "primitive" weapon, with the emphasis on either-sex deer.

What say you?

It means he can hunt with any firearm outlined in firearms that are legal for taking deer ( shotgun, centerfire rifle )
