St. Anger "Remaster"

Anyone listen to this yet? They took out the horrible part in "Invisible Kid". Also, imagine if Metallica actually made this album without the garbage sounding drums.

The vocals in this is are surprisingly very good and are very close to James Hetfield.

Enjoy.

I like the original version of "St. Anger".

That's one of my all-time favorite weight lifting songs. #1 for Max Bench Day.

Honestly that isn't bad.

I'm flipping between re-recorded versions and originals....I forgot how bad the drums were. The snare is obviously shite but the rest of it is even shitty.

Very cool! Frantic actually sounds like a coherent song now, instead of the messy noisefest from St. Anger. Great playing, excellent production.

Let's hope Metallica (or their lawyers) won't force them to take it down.

Outside of some great riffs that could have been melded into something awesome, St. Anger is, and always will be, a shite without end, Amen.

It doesn't matter who records it; the whole thing just feels rushed, top to bottom.

I do envy the concept though - I always wondered if I would have liked it had Lars not melted cowbell on every drumhead.

Seriously though, who stole all of Lars's snares and forced him to use metal trash can lids instead for that album?

St. Anger sounds like Oscar the Grouch farting in a trash can.

I remember listening to St Anger and thinking wow, this is fantastic....actually it was 3 of us in my band at the time. We all thought Maybe we were too dismissive of Metallica's other stuff. So we went back and listened to all of it.....well, as much as we could get through. Its all just cliched, predictable boringness. Sure, there are some good songs here and there but overall its the suck. But I'm not a pimply faced teenager so I guess I'm not their demographic.

Yeah it's definitely better than people give it credit for. I actually like the trash can drums.

ETA: I didn't like it when it first came out. I've changed my opinion about it recently.

Please, the first 4 Metallica albums are and always will be masterpieces, especially 2-4. Those albums were incredibly well thought out and executed. There is a reason Metallica are legends and it has nothing to do with their mainstream success of their middle years-present. If you dont think those first 4 albums are fantastic, then you just dont get it and never will.

A while back Metallica released an EP which had the original Some Kind of Monster, some live tracks when they played 3 shows in one day in Paris, and an edited version of SKOM. In the edit they shortened the song up by taking out the weird meandering riffs at the beginning, and also cleaned up the drums and thickened up the guitar sound. It amazed me how much better that song became with actual production.

SKOM Edit

Between Kill 'Em All and St. Anger, Metallica was just a halfway competent drummer away from being a legendary heavy metal outfit.

But, alas it was not to be. Since then, they've become a caricature of themselves - especially after that stupid movie showed them to all be a bunch of pussies.

Lars was lucky he was in a band with guys like Cliff Burton, Dave Mustaine, James, Kirk etc.

He acts like he's the john Lennon of the band.
