Honest questions and observations.
#1 not everyone is made out to be a head coach so I can look past his time at Baylor.
#2 during his first stint with bama I'm pretty sure he was working with the players Shula had before saban got there so he didn't have alot to work with.
#3 what kind of talent did he have to work with at Clemson? I doubt he had top tier SEC talent.
I believe with the position coaches we have in place he will do a good job. Lsu is lsu and we have more talent than a Shula bama team, Clemson and Baylor.

I agree with all but #3. I'm pretty sure he had a lot of talent at Clemson.

Had an average year, above average year, and disaster year at Clemson. They had talent though, so that is not an excuse. Plus they played in the ACC, so competition was weaker.

National Rankings per NCAA's statistics database:

2009 (TOP on offense was #105):

#25 Scoring Defense
#20 Total Defense
#7 Pass Defense
#21 Pass Efficiency Defense
#67 Rushing Defense
#12 Tackles for a Loss
#11 Turnovers Gained
#64 3rd Down Defense
#114 Red Zone Defense

2010 (TOP on offense was #82):

#13 Scoring Defense
#19 Total Defense
#22 Pass Defense
#27 Pass Efficiency Defense
#28 Rushing Defense
#10 Tackles for a Loss
#72 Turnovers Gained
#49 3rd Down Defense
#98 Red Zone Defense

2011 (TOP on offense was #107):

#81 Scoring Defense
#71 Total Defense
#50 Pass Defense
#74 Pass Efficiency Defense
#83 Rushing Defense
#86 Tackles for a Loss
#49 Turnovers Gained
#73 3rd Down Defense
#83 Red Zone Defense

I wondered this myself. Yes, they have talent, but like in the case with West Virginia, they are going to draw more of the offensive talent than defensive, I would think.

Or maybe I'm making excuses.

In regards to #3 I don't really follow anyone outside of the SEC so I don't really know what kind of talent Clemson had that's whay I asked what kind of talent he had. I didn't know.

They had talent, but were young in 2011, their worst year.

I also read in an article posted in another thread he only had one good year in recruiting there, partially due to Dabo not wanting his assistants on the road during the season.

Nick Saban hired this cat multiple times.

Does NTP strike you as someone that keeps an incompetent guy around, let alone rehire him on more than one occasion?
