most exciting part of DC hire

the depth charts will be shaken up!
the most frustrating part of chief was that every year it seemed like there was a clear weak link on the defense and he continued to play them. (ala welter, hatcher, mccray, etc.)
even now i question whether the best linebackers were always on the field.
with a new staff, will come moves on the depth chart. these guys dont have a prior relationship with our players so they will evaluate them on their talent alone.
i cant wait to see an LB core of jones, beckwith, and garrett! gonna be awesome!

The fact that he is still playing in the NFL makes him the most baffling player ever to set foot on the field as a Tiger.
How we had a guy with the talent to play in the NFL for 5 years, see significant snaps each year and even start 10 games but look THAT bad at LSU is going to just have to be one of life's little unsolved mysteries.
NOTE: That's not really a knock on LSU or Miles. It just happens. Hell, how in the frick did Ryan Clark end up as good as he did?

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the Rant just isn't that good at talent evaluation.
I mean McCray was the worst DB to ever play at LSU. Turner made a huge mistake leaving early for the draft, etc.

I don't think even McCray would say his time at LSU represented his best work. Frankly, I think the primary problem was he was quite often playing out of position and the NFL is using him more in a role compatible with his skills.

McCray wasn't bad at LSU. he was just asked to do things in coverage he really wasn't capable of doing. on a lot of other teams he'd have just been a safety - and prob a starter at that. the best use for him (outside of playing safety) was how Pelini used him as a run down 5th DB against spread looks in 06, with Daniel Francis coming in for passing downs. the next couple yrs (after Francis graduated), they'd leave him in at nickel in passing downs, and he was a mismatch waiting to happen against slot WRs.
also, Taylor and Harry did him no favors in 08 when they'd get all out of position and not be there to help over the top. see the long TD to Harvin.

Most exciting part is that its over. We will see how Steele does. Tired of,hearing rumors about dick Lebeau or jack del rio.

OSU will tell you they are fine playing Bama or Arky in a bowl game ... and no one else.

Chavis was a solid defensive coordinator. But talent as with all coaches helped make him what he was at LSU.
I wonder how much talent of the players has played a part of Steele's defenses being good or bad? He has been the DC while teams did great (despite what the rant says) and has seen years just the opposite.
Don't misunderstand. I believe there are better DC out there that we probably could have gotten.
Horrible......average.....Great
Where is the truth.
Rant says horrible. His results don't agree. His being demoted at Alabama ageees.
Hopefully he WAS average. Hopefully he has improved. Hopefully his recruiting well elevate the LSU defense to very high levels.

This deserves a thread unto itself
It was the worst of Chavis
It had a lot to do with 3rd and Chavis and Prevent
