Can you imagine if today's news was Orgeron to Alabama to replace Steele?
Actually, now Steele + Orgeron is not far from the optimal scenario. Most wanted Pendergast ans DC and coach O as DL coach. We got half of it. Pendergast has no SEC experience and is not a recruiter but has a good record as DC, Steele is an excellent recruiter and has SEC experience but viewed as average DC; looks like not far from optimal.

If that would have happened, there might have been some rantards that would end it, right then and there.

They would have been fawning over how awesome a recruiter he is but now that he's at LSU they're questioning the hire

This is also possibly a better fit than CP/Ed O because of Steele's work with LBs. Pendergast's background is with DBs. This gives us a more well rounded staff.

Haley being reassigned to LBs could've achieved the same end, but I'll take Steele with O attached.

I can't decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

This process was a whirlwind, and I fully admit to getting caught up in some names that were probably distant long shots or even flat-out bogus. But the Steel-Ed combo is a good landing spot.

Funny how this shite works out. We land Coach O as a position coach, and you can make a legit argument that he should be holding the top job at one of the country's premiere programs right now.

Maybe that would have been an overall positive thing

interesting. We had the best statistcal defense in the SEC , and among the worst passing offenses in all of the NCAA last year.

Who would have thought all of the coaching changes would be on the defensive side of the ball?

Quite honestly, that is what I thought was going to happen when the Steele hire was announced. It's one of the reasons I wasn't happy about the hire. Getting O definitely made me feel much better.

That is being very generous. His record speaks for itself. Hopefully he turns it around over here.

Why do people keep bringing that up? And by people, I mean just a select few.

Were we not supposed to hire a replacement for Chavis?

Are you just trying to find a negative spin on today's positive news?

pointing out the obvious: no one saw this coming, and we may still have problems on offense.

at the end of the day, i think we're definitely better though.

That is a good point....should we have just hired a pee wee football coach and paid him 15 bucks an hour to coach our D simply because our offense isn't great?

People are dumb.
