I shot a hog off the blacktop one time. He was in the roadside ditch, about 10pm just looking at me. I couldn't help it. I hate those things. I bet the people around there thought someone was poaching deer.

Shortly afterward I called my friend (mayor of said town) and self-reported myself. I brought the pig to his house and we skinned it there.

Awesome.

I would assume this given that scenario.

That's great. But did you talk to the landowner? I'm sure he didn't care that you shot the hog, but I'm sure he would've liked to know that you weren't doing it on the reg.

This is why I gave up my lease in South MS and just hunt on it when invited by the friends that have it now. It wasn't worth putting the time and effort into stands and food plots when I'd go out there and find headless buck bodies (not even dressed) and dead smaller deer (sometimes with hams and backstraps gone) in the ditch or on the property, or when I'd be sitting in a stand and people would run dogs through it. Reporting it never did any good.

It's a wonder you don't hear more about people having enough and taking matters into their own hands. Nothing ever comes of any wrong doing unless they are caught redhanded. Pisses me off to no avail.

No. I would have had to try to run down some probably drunk and definitely armed trespassers who knew they were guilty in a boat. Not at all worth it. I called green jeans and told him what boat launch to go wait at. Green jeans said he couldn't be there till 830am because he was on the other side of the parish in a boat. Told him don't worry about it.

Catching poachers is just as much fun as hunting.

This shite happens all this time on my place in SW MS. A few years back I was sitting on the front porch of our camp and a nice buck came out across the road on my neighbor's property. A beat up truck came driving down the road and stopped when they saw the deer. Driver pulled out his rifle and dropped the deer. Neighbor got on his arse but there's only so much you can do to the local rednecks. They'll burn your camp down if you give them too much shite.

It wasn't on private land. In my mind it was on a state-owned right-of-way. I'm not calling Bobby Jindal.

We had some crackers near Gloster that would poach our land, run dogs across it, etc. Then we went up there to hut one day and all but one of our stands were destroyed. Rednecks are out of control up there.

I swear, if I had land, this would constantly be on my mind, it would become an obsession.

I would really like to buy some in the next few years, but I'd have to get over this stress issue enough to enjoy the land

It's illegal to construct a high fence in MS now.
