Work Phone Options

I need some help on how to handle my cell phone at my new company.
Currently I have a personal phone that I am on a group plan with (family plan) and pay $50/month. Not sure if it is unlimited everything but it is set up where I haven't exceeded my limit yet. My previous employer provided a company phone so I was left with carrying 2 phones. My new employer said that I could keep my current personal phone and they could transfer the number to their plan since we both have Verizon which would leave me with one phone for both (I prefer to only have 1 phone).
Is there a best way for them to pay for my phone that wouldn't require them basically taking over my phone? It seems like once I transfer to their plan I am basically giving them my phone and number.
I have thought about expensing my phone monthly but I am on a good plan and pay very little. If I was to go out and get my own unlimited plan I would probably pay way more than i currently am.
Just trying to look for options. I have always been on this group plan for my personal phone so changing it seems like bringing in new issues.

You could always sign up for a Google Voice number. That would give you an additional telephone number, but keep you at one phone.

Keep the personal phone IMO
Don't give them ownership of your number unless it doesn't mean much to you
You can probably forward all work calls to your personal if you want to on the weekends or vice versa
I just went through these same questions and I decided to keep my personal phone separate

That was my first thought but the extra $600 a year is making me think about it. A little more. Although not a lot, it's still money in my pocket. I
I would just expense it if possible but figured the additional emails, phone calls, etc would probably put me over my allotment. I guess I need to check what plan I do have.

Sorry, I'd carry two phones all day, every day, rather than turn my personal phone & number over to my employer. There are many good reasons to keep work & home separate. If you feel you no longer need a personal phone 'cause you hardly use the thing, then turn that one off. But I wouldn't ever relinquish my personal phone to my employer....you do realize once they've assumed the phone & number, any bit of privacy you had is completely gone?

That was most of my reason
If I want to look at something NSFW on my phone, I obviously don't want work to know about it
If they let you expense monthly for your phone, that's an option, but providing your line costs on a bill for a group plan is probably difficult

So go negotiate a flat-rate reimbursement for the occasional business use of your phone.

I am getting married in June and will be probably be needing to add another line for my wife. At that point I will probably get off the group plan and start my own plan. Would it be a good option to start my own plan now then have them reimburse me 100% then when I add my wife I will just pay the difference? Obviously reimbursement is the only option I would want to take now. As another poster said, I would loose ,y privacy with them if I transferred my number. Just looking for the best option.

Either carry two, get reimbursement, or live with knowing that if you ever leave, they aren't giving you your phone or number back.

I started carrying too phones, and have never felt better. It's so nice to shut the work phone off as soon as 4:30 hits.

I was offered a similar option 3.5 years ago with my company. Chose to have 2 phones mainly bc I don't want my personal stuff on my work phone. I don't mind carrying 2 phones around at all
