Did anyone even know who Shorty was before the Independence Bowl when Jerry's Tigers kicked Shorty's arse all over Shreveport back when...hell no! But Shorty knew one thing...he wanted the LSU job from that moment forward. He told his agent to do whatever it took to get it. He wanted access to Louisiana athletes. He was an average coach before finding a pot of gold in Bayou country. And I'll give him credit. He's a great talent evaluator. But so is Urban at OSU...and the little man met his superior again. College football is mostly about recruiting...and Urban knows that too...Les is trying to assemble a recruiting machine..and I hope he is successful!
ps. Top 10 is no longer good enough as Oregon found out...bigger, stronger, faster athletes will dominate most of the time...jmho

Well of course Miles needs the best athletes.

All he does is line up toe to toe and attempt to out-athlete every opponent. He damn sure isn't going to out scheme them. And there are times where this is the thing to do.

But, against better competition it would be nice to give the kids a break now and again by just putting them in better positions to win, and not leave everything up to their physical abilities alone.

Miles gets the groceries, he just cooks the same damn thing every night.

A real QB will solve all those ills...all the other pieces seem to be in place now...we are one QB away from an explosive offence...jmho

Well based on all the QBs Miles has identified and developed in his 10 years here, here's hoping one transfers in.

Recruiting is everything in College football. Saban's first year record at Alabama was 7-6 with a loss to ULM. He was just as good a coach then as he is now. Only difference is the quality of the players I think Steele is going to do a great job as DC. Never has he had the athletes as a DC as he will have now.

Yeah, Saban hasn't had a long track record of greatness in that dept either. But he did play QB and win a state championship, so I tend to cut him more slack.

His QBs seem to be more serviceable also. I think the clay he's got to work with now is considerably better than ours.
