This was not the home run hire many of us (myself included) were expecting; but this was a solid single.

We get a proven recruiter and a guy that has coached with some of the greatest football minds in history. We don't need some defensive wizard, the defensive success at LSU should not be difficult to duplicate. In my opinion LSU covered all the basis in this hire, guy with NFL experience and knows the SEC West. Recruiting success should improve and who knows maybe we will see some pressure on 3rd downs.

Surely wasn't my first choice but I can see the rational behind how this can be a very solid hire.

People who disagree with the OP obviously don't know anything about building successful teams. These same people fail to give any facts to state their reasons why this is not a good hire.

It was a strike out looking.

Miles never took the bat off his shoulder.

Kind of felt like a double play with the bases loaded to end the inning to me...

I don't have too. This hire makes sense, doesn't have the wow factor that is important to fans with little to no knowledge, but I'm ready to see it work.

Steele wasn't the DC in 2012. I don't know why people keep posting like he was. He was let go after the Orange Bowl debacle. Venables was the DC. So he had the one shite year.

He wasn't at Clemson in 2012, he was fired after 2011 season.

It's more like Les pulled his pitcher while he was still getting outs, on some unknown pitch count, and the relivers blew the series.

For those who can't seem to be able to find anything positive about ANYTHING, I just have a few questions.

How many years have YOU coached in College or NFL?
How many years of experience do you have leading a talent search for coach?
How many times In your sad, nothing, all I can do is spew negative crap
about everything LSU, have you made a decision at your work that carries
any importance to the success of the company for which you work?

I have o many more but my time is more important. " HAVE A GREAT DAY."

I'll be honest, I thought Steele was a homer hire for Clemson when he left Bama. Some say he was fired or pushed out by Saban but I don't remember it that way at all. Then I saw what he did at Clemson and how bad his defenses were at times. I don't know if it was talent or philosophy but he lost his shine and basically seemed to crawl back to Bama. I'm not sure what we got. Maybe the Clemson thing had some internal problems that contributed. I'm not sure. When his name first surfaced I thought to myself that will never happen...only to be surprised today. If nothing else he can recruit.
