I work for a company that services O&G platforms and we have received letters from 2 companies stating that they expect to see decreases in our rates so they can keep their profit margins where they need to be.
drilling contractors are slashing rates in half from what I hear

Really the only aspect of my business that will be effected is the offshore, the inland market shall remain steady enough to weather the storm. Lower fuel cost is actually a benefit to the transportation side of my business, not so good on the O&G side.

I'm not so sure. I hope so, but we've been monitoring activity in south Louisiana for the last few months and drilling activity has really tapered off

Their profit margins need to go up with declining revenues, or they will be out of business if this doesn't turn around.

Yep. Lower fuel prices have the shrimp boat market on fire. Setting up to be the best spring for us in a long time. It will be a bit diminished with the offshore housing and marble/construction problems coming for Lafayette/New Iberia/Morgan City.

Though I did tell my older sister I was taking her room at my dad's since she's been staying at her mom's and I want to live on dad's dime too. Lazy fricks

Funny aside. My younger sister texted me this today

The problem is will they be able to grab the higher margins? My industry has been hurt pretty badly since 2008. We had to respond by raising prices on certain items to keep our margins where they have to be to sustain profitability. Lower sales means higher margins are vital to staying afloat.

In some ways. X-ray testing isn't. My biggest offshore housing guy still has a lot of work to do. But, that could just be cancelled with an accountant's pen.

The company I work for now has so many jobs for people from here to Australia. If you are ever are looking for something let me know and I will be glad to direct you to people who can hook you up.

Like I tell my friends, pipe is pipe and it doesn't care if it's carrying oil or LNG.

Had a meeting today and we cut back from 6 drilling rigs on the shelf to 2. This is not a good sign for me.

And what if ALL of our employers each had he ability to raise every consumers expenses by $x amount while taking in record setting profits? What if we all did it at same time as oil?

O&G employment isn't some charity that the American public is obligated to fund. Equilibrium dictates fewer jobs in that market.

If I work for a pet food company and I tell you guys to pay $100/big bag of dog food do you give a frick if I lose my job when you choose not to?
