How many steps does it take to make "the process" complete?

if he runs ten steps, falls, and the ground causes a ball shift, is it incomplete? If not, how many steps must be taken for "the process" threshold to be broken?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop roll?

One, two, three...

Three.

Slippery slope. Look, I thought Dez had a decent argument for a catch, but that is a completely different situation than what happened in the game.

He has to make a football move. Diving towards the endzone is not a football move.

You don't want to reach the endzone in football.

The erroneous argument being made by many is that he was stumbling thus an infinite number of steps wouldn't matter. The issue is simply whether or not he attempted to extend the ball, which constitutes a football move and removes the need to complete the catch through to the ground regardless of whether a player is falling.

People are discussing mostly the wrong things. They should be talking about why the refs, by their own admission, based the call on what they believed Bryant was intending to do there. They didn't believed he intended to extend the ball and thus didn't make a football move.

That's bullshite

If someone makes a catch and stumbles ten steps with clear possession of the ball and then the ball hits the ground, that's an incomplete pass.

All you have to do is maintain possession and make a football move. Dez Bryant couldn't do that today. Sucks to suck.

How does positrack work on a Pontiac? It just does.

ETA: Dont like the cowboys whatsoever, but they shouldn't have overturned that call

Do you have the list of football moves?

No but I do know falling on your face is not one of them.

Rogers would have come back to win it instead of running out the clock. Looked like a catch too me though, and I hate the cowboys. If nothing else he shoulda been down at 1 when his knee and elbow was down, the bobble happened in the end zone.

The rule book lists them, and extending the ball is included in the list.

The others IIRC include making a distinct cut or changing direction, switching from one hand to the other, turning around if the ball is caught facing the LOS, etc.

No less than four steps. Dez only took 3, although I think he only took 2.

Either way, he didn't take 4 steps, therefore not a catch.

There was a play similar to this in the Den/SD game earlier this year which was upheld as a catch. I think it was Demaryius Thomas who caught a ball near the first down marker, turned and extended the ball and it came out when he hit the ground. They said the extension constituted a football move. The Lance Moore catch in the SB is also comparable as it was ruled complete due to his extension of the ball prior to the ball coming loose on the ground.

That play has a precedent of being called a catch, which makes it even more maddening.
