Was wondering when folks would start posting.

I think I have just finished refining my design. For the sake of competition, just a heads up: it is in the ballpark of 12k.

I'm beginning to not like you, Vol.

I misread the first challenge and was the lowest putting a Kerbal down.

If you can put a Kerbal down and hit several biomes on Minmus for $12,000 I'm damned interested to see it.

ETA: not being a smart arse. I honestly want to see how that can be done.

To be clear, when I give dollar values before submitting an entry the sole purpose is sportsmanship.

If I was competing I would want to know about where the leading edge is. If you guys find it irritating I will stop.

And I don't know if it can be done. I haven't done it yet. I have just built a rocket and the delta-v is there. If it can accomplish the mission however....

I'm aware that there is a difference between being pretty good with a sword and being a ninja. If you post a video where you hit several biomes with a Kerbal for $12,000, I'll learn something. Looking forward to seeing it.

Ah damn....the whole point is moot.

Something came up tomorrow and won't be able to put up the time for a mission before Monday.

Well here's the deal with all of that. If you get a Kerbal to land on Minmus for cheap, then you can spend infinite amount of time walking around and gathering samples.

So getting a Kerbal to Minmus for cheap basically means you win, no matter how many biomes you do or don't get.

The challenge should have been how quickly you could do it.

However, no one wants to play the game for 4 hours traveling from one biome to another on foot.

So I guess it works out.

I got to Minmus for pretty cheap.

Now I'm going to get there for a little more to be able to pick up lots of samples.

I actually did that Friday night where I gathered a few biomes walking and with my jetpack. Yesterday I went back and got the seven I got by flying to and landing on all of them.

Yeah you can go to Minmus walk around and get the biomes for almost no cost but damn that takes forever. I used to do that in science/career mode as my first mission and bring back a ton of science.

I really hope I get to finish my mission, I've got the flu or something been sick since Wednesday.

I thought about that.

I'll add the design I was referring to included a rover

It wasn't just my Mun rocket with just assuming I was going to walk my Kerbalnaut around.

The idea was scrapped when I found out you need to return to the command module after each sample. Didn't realize that.

Otherwise I would have just driven around.

Lots of screenshot nightmare for this challenge

Minmus Challege Ship B, 32,134

The B is because I tried to frick around with electrical power and it ended poorly. Got two flags on it though...

Coming into my first landing site

First Minmus Touchdown

Greater Flats

Back in the ship for a flag and a Kerbal only flight to the Slopes

Back to the ship for another flag and a flight to the Midlands

Off to my next site, figuring out directions and learning fuel on this one conserves well, I can DO EET!

Hit up the Flats next

Back in the ship for a flag then a quick flight to the Lowlands

Progress so far

Off on another adventure

Great Flats

Coming in

Lesser Flats

Ploting my pole trip, notice the highlands are northeast on the biome map and could kerbal it to the pole if I messed up because of how dark the highlands are and no shadow. I used alot of fast time to rotate Mimus and make sure I could use light to my advantage since I forgot to put lights on my craft

Highlands

Here we go...

Poles

Back in the ship for a finishing time of 17 days and 5:35:11

Minmus with all my flags

I probably could of gotten home with the fuel I had left, but that was enough Kerbal for one day. He is still there if I want to try it later...

You are correct, this challenge is a screen shot nightmare.

What I did was put the soil sample proofs and the cost proof in an album and just linked the album. That freed me up to just post a handful of pics of my stages without clogging up the thread with screen shots of my biomes.

Good job.

I'm postponing the deadline for a few days. I feel like hell.

I've done 4/5 of the biomes, but I reall don't feel like finishing, posting pictures or going through everyone else's. So, I'll move it back to Wednesday.

I really fricked up my Minmus approach. I caught it on the return side of my orbit because the Mun was in the freakin way. I wish I would of redid it and hit the going out side. I would of been in the 4-5 day window instead of 17 days.

I was just like frick it and finished it.

Well I guess I confused on scoring now... Is it just biomes visited, then cost? I thought it was time, but I didn't see it on the page 4 one.

Biomes first, then cost in the event of a tie

Ah cool, well then my frick up of making sure to miss the Mun didn't cost me, not putting on lights helped a little. Probably could of gotten it a little cheaper shaving off some fuel/solar panels, but I don't feel like redoing this one any time soon.

Managed to hit 7/9 before my lack of landing gears got the better of me. On the last biome my rocket fell over and landed on the hatch, I tried to push it over or at least down the slope with Jeb but to no avail. I had also just saved it so...
