Amazon prime question re: instant video and video rental

Amazon prime includes streaming Amazon instant video. My roku shows some movies available for rent. If I had Amazon prime would these movies be included at no additional cost or would they cost more to rent.

many of them, yes. It is very easy to recoup the value of an Amazon Prime membership in many ways.

Some movies are Prime instant video (free with Prime membership) and some will stream for a fee, usually about $3. I think the last time I paid to stream one, I had streaming rights (similar to rental time) for 30 days.

Some are free, some you still need to rent. It just depends on the movie.

I know they have fire and fire stick, but any chance Amazon and chromecast come together for relationship?

I disagree. I'm having a hard time justifying it. I order from Amazon about every 2 weeks but don't mind waiting for stuff. Certainly not to pay $100 to get it quicker. The instant video would make it worth it if it included newer releases but it seems like it's just like Netflix.

Same here, coon.
Lots of Amazon has free shipping, anyway.

That's why you get the student membership

The shipping itself is worth it for me, but more than the streaming video I use the free unlimited photo storage on the cloud and the prime music service. My wife uses the kindle prime loan a book thing.

I don't get how the shipping makes it worth it. If you can wait 2 days, you can wait 5 or 6. If you can't wait 2 days, wal marks.

For us, it's not necessarily the time of shipping that makes it worth it, but the cost.
We buy all sorts of stuff off Amazon, including car parts or parts to fix the never-ending list of household things that break. Shopping around on the internet and comparing costs + cost of shipping, if we can get it using Prime free shipping, then we usually do.
It's also easier for my husband to order something off Amazon than for him to say, "When you get by a hardware store, pick up this hose we need"."

Right, but almost everything offers free shipping. So I less you need it right now, it's virtually the same.
The things that don't have free shipping (from my experience) come from a third party provider. Does prime cover those costs?
Example: I ordered two light fixtures that shipped from Northern Tool. No free shipping option available. Would prime have made that free?

Go to amazon & search for fixtures. In those results, pick a specific category and then you can filter by Prime only and there is your answer.

Only if it has the Prime symbol. And yes you have to be careful because some Prime items are more expensive than the same item available from a 3rd party seller.
But we usually comparison shop, especially on stuff for the cars or house. I know we have ordered some heavy items before which would have cost us $20-$30 in shipping from another online store, or more (retail price) in a local store.

I pass a Walmart 4 times a day and would rather order my underwear from Amazon prime than go into the Walmart for it.
Basically anything else that I don't need today, I see if I can order from Amazon.

Usually the prime item differs in price by about what you'd pay to ship the cheaper item.

If it were a prime item it would've been free, if you had prime.
Usually items sold by or handled by Amazon are prime eligible. I believe prime items are marked as such, if you have it or not. Basically letting you know if you had it, it could be shipped in two days for free.
ETA Just logged out and searched for things I usually buy that are Prime items. Amazon still shows the Prime icon next to them even though I'm logged out.

I enjoy my prime membership and feel it is a value to me. It is a combo of the free shipping and getting it in 2 days, like I said it is a value to me
But if you are currently paying for Netflix , it is a no brainier , quit Netflix, save the $9/month you were paying for that and use the prime video service , put that money toward a prime membership, save $9/ year and get the free 2 day shipping and everything else for free
