what is the M/TV boards thoughts on this?
wife and I watched it last night for the first time and were both severely disappointed.
first off, I get it, its not supposed to be an Oscar quality movie. its a bunch of friends who got together and just made a silly movie and didn't take themselves seriously. it had lots of promise the first 20 minutes and then once they started showing demons and people getting beamed up it lost me
I was expecting more, it wasn't horrible, it just wasn't what I thought
also, I know im in the minority on this, but am I the only one who doesn't get Danny McBride? he has his moments but hes just WAY too over the top for me. i feel like hes a one trick pony, a country hick who says the F word every other word. to me that's not talent, i grew up on chevy chase, bill murray, steve martin, eddie murphy. i guess its just my style of humor but i just don't get him.
overall i gave the movie a C-

for what it is and what it tries to be, it excels greatly
I really like it
I don't know what you were expecting. It was advertised as a disaster/sci fi comedy. It showed people being beamed up in the trailers

I am in the minority on this board, but I thought it was pretty terrible. Like you, I enjoyed the first thirty minutes, though in the context of the film as a whole, the first thirty minutes pretty much had zero to do with the movie in general. The remainder of the movie had funny moments, but for the most part dragged. By the end, I was clamoring for the exit door.
O and Danny McBride is annoying as frick. You are not alone in that.

your last 3 sentences are spot on. im the same way
seriously during the last 20 minutes my wife and I were getting ready for bed(brushing teeth, getting dressed, answering emails) and just wanting to get it over with
I was tired of McBride after 5 minutes- dude is like nails on a chalkboard

I laughed so hard I cried the first time I saw it. Danny McBride was off the charts hilarious as was Jonah Hills character.
I had to watch it a few more times just because I missed stuff I was laughing to hard to hear.

Loved it. Like someone said, it is perfectly exactly what it's trying to be.

I thought the movie was okay I guess. I dont think I'd sit through it again. And yes Danny McBride does play the same guy in everything, but I think he's pretty funny.I liked Eastbound and Down when it was on.

It had one of the greatest cameos ever....Channing Tatum.

I like to call him Channing Tate-Yummm

I know Tatum gets a lot of flack about his acting, but at least he can poke fun at himself.

Eastbound and Down was good for one season but the schtick got old fast.

I'm not gonna see it, I'm so sick of these same 4-6 actors in the same movies recycling the same shite film after film.
Time for the fresh blood in the comedy genre.

The jizz scene between Mcbride and Franco was fricking hilarious

I thought it was really funny. But I am immature and enjoy sophomoric, toilet humor.
Michael Cera blowing down and telling Jason Segel to frick off..
Mindy Kaling: "If I don't frick Michael Cera tonight I'm gonna fricking kill myself."
James Franco carrying that stupid gun around all movie..
That's gold.

I laughed, a lot.
It was a stupid immature comedy, but it was a really funny one.

Terrible I agree
Bad script, overacting, a lot of emphasis on the wrong scenes
It was a terribly lazy movie
That said...DUCK because this boards simple minded posters have a love for it

I still laugh at the scene with Franco and Danny McBride talking about "coming" funny arse stuff.

This. It was exactly what I hoped it would be, and I loved it for it.
