Declines in football are a lot like economic declines. By the time everyone recognizes it, it's too late.

Step 1) Seeds of decline are sown. Very few obvious outward signs, but some errors or simply negative factor have occurred that will eventually show symptoms. A few people may see them, but very few. And, for the most part, they are made fun of by those who think they're crazy.(at this point, they might be crazy)

Step 2) First real signs that the seeds have taken root. Still, most people perceive the slight decline as a mere blip. They expect full recovery and relatively quick.(recovery isn't out of the question)

Step 3) Signs are no longer really deniable but there will be a few hold outs who swear that things are going to turn around and demand that no policies be significantly changed. "It's just a cycle and no individuals or policies are to blame".(only fools still deny the problem)

Step 4) Any moron knows the bottom has fallen out. Everyone in step three disappears. Pretty soon, everyone you meet claims to have fallen into Step 1.(not even possible to deny the problem)

Now that I think of it, this is sort of common in all things. IE, try to find someone now who admits to having liked Vanilla Ice. Dude sold millions of albums to apparently, no one.

OTOH, just like in the economy, there are always doomsayers predicting calamity. Eventually something bad does happen, and they say "see, I was right all along!"

Agreed. IE, if you predict it will rain long enough, eventually, it does.

But, I can tell you that I was on message boards for the Dinardo era and it fit my synopsis perfectly. Nowadays, even the most positiger on here will claim he knew Dinardo was going to fail.

And yet, back then, that era's version of "pumpers" was just as common and all of the arguments were pretty much the same.

When he has a freshman or sophomore QB he sure his. Goes super conservative to help from destroying said QBs confidence...what a piece of shite

Look. You excuse mongers can defend him all you want.

The bottom line reality is this.

If we needed to hire a new OC tomorrow and the guy we hired had a resume on the offensive side of the ball that was an exact duplicate of what LSU has done on offense since Miles' hire, this board would be f'n homicidal and opposing fans would laugh their asses off.

If you are going to deny that, then don't even waste your time typing.

This was a cleverly (for a moment) disguised bash Les thread. Well done (kind of).

Well, actually, while everyone in here knows I'm no Miles fan, I happen to think that it's still fair to say we are probably only in the Step 2 stage of what I listed.

Alas, my sig quote kind of derailed things.

We have had 3 OC's under Miles (jimbo, crowton, cam) all have up and down years. The down years 100% of the time we had a freshman or sophmore QB. The up years we 100% of the time had a junior or senior QB. WHAT PART OF THAT IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

Here comes that "syndrome" again! lol These Bs need to just die and take it like a man. But, no, they have to try to drag everyone down with them...into the misery that they relish!!!

Um. Is it some sort of universal college football law that a college starting Sophomore will not just have a bad offense but a GOD F'N AWFUL passing offense?

Seems that are several coaches and OCs out there who haven't heard about this universal law.

But hey, let's assume it IS universal law. What might a coach who has a catastrophe of a time with young QBs do in recruiting? Ya know, in order to avoid going from a Senior to having only a true freshman and sophomore?

Hmm. Let me ponder this dilemma.

Did I decry EVERYTHING Les has done or his offensive issues?

I think it was the a latter.

I don't think Les is 100% incompetent. I posted on just that point a few days ago. The guy has his positives. But, if he's not careful, those are going to be weighed down.
