Dough for Pigs in Blankets?
Posted by TigerWise on 1/8/15 at 11:29 am00
Looking for an easy store bought solution as I'm making these for a kids birthday party and will need about 40-50. Wanted to get some input before I just went and bought a bunch of crescent rolls. I was considering pizza dough too.

You can use canned biscuits too.
A lot cheaper.
The kids won't care.
Unless they post on F&DB.
If they do expect a fair number of

Kids are fine with the canned dough. Just make sure you cook them enough, so they don't taste doughy. Undercooked pigs are not good. Kids may not care for straight mustard. You might consider the straight yellow and yellow with a little mayo to tone it down, ketchup for some kids, a Cane's like sauce since they like that or just buy some.
My preference is a good sausage rolled in some puff pastry that's been rolled on just a bit, so it's not overly puffy. Roll up the link, slice and bake. No cheese please. Have some good mustards out.

Try the puffed pastry with those. It's good and a nice change. I wouldn't use pizza dough, but that's a personal pref. I prefer the flaky kind of dough. You can get the crescent dough in a whole roll now, I think. I remember someone mentioning that here, but I haven't bought it.
Buy the cheapest biscuit dough available. A little secret..... if you don't feel like baking it you can drop them in a deep fryer, make sure the hot dog is completly wrapped. If you want to get fancy you can use cheesy dogs. My kids live them.
My CSB. Everyone laughed at me when I brought some to a pot luck dinner for ou4 Mardi Gras float. They were the first thing to go.

And put a bit of hogs head cheese. Delicious.
