So I'm heading to New Orleans for about a week in April, I'm just looking to get some answers on a few things. I feel like I have a solid list of lunch and dinner spots, but let me know if there are any must eats that you might recommend.

As far as the nicer or busier lunch/dinner spots like Commander's Palace, Peche, Cochon, La Boca, Luke, La Petite Grocery, etc... How far in advance should I make reservations? Would you go ahead and do that now?

Obviously, there are a ton of po-boy shops. My visits in the past usually involved a stop at Johnny's. I'm not trying to start a fight here, but which place would you recommend for a roast beef po-boy and a shrimp po-boy? I've seen Killer, Guy's, Parkway, and Domilise mentioned as great spots before.

I also would like to get some good pho while in town for lunch one day. Where would you recommend? I've seen Pho Tau Bay and Tan Dinh mentioned online a bunch. Does the F&DB prefer one over the other, or is there another place worth checking out? I realize MoPho isn't authentic, but how does their pho compare?

I am staying at the Embassy Suites near the convention center, so I will probably grab a free breakfast there most of the time. Any breakfast joints worth going out for? From what I've seen of District, I'd like to check it out.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Go to Guys for the Poboys and eat Pho at Lilly's. I'm not sending a visitor to the Westbank.

a week or 2 to guarantee a time that you want

Guy's is awesome but they're only open 11-4

I would agree with Wise, Lilly's has the best Pho in the city, but if you want atmosphere along with good Pho check out Magasin

Ruby Slipper in the FQ, Satsuma in the Marigny. Satsuma is one of my favorite places to go in the city…I always order a shot of wheatgrass, a beet, kale, & grapefruit 16 ounce juice, coffee, and the mexican breakfast…it's freakin awesome

If it's going to be CP, Peche or La Boca I'd just go ahead and make reservations now so you can get your preferred dining time. The others you're fine to wait and make the reservation a bit when you make up your mind. Just don't wait until the week before or you might have to slide into a 530 or 930 slot.

If you've never been to Parkway a visitation is in order. It's my 1a poboy joint, and Guy's (specifically their fried shrimp) is my 1b.

Pho uptown go to Lilly's. Tan Dinh and Pho Tau Bay are both very good though, and just a quick trip across dah rivah.

If it were me I'd walk to Merchant in the CBD. I'm not big on breakfast so I'd just wait until lunch rather than stand in line somewhere like Ruby Slipper or Mother's. District overall is a pile of douchey shite. Steer clear.

There are tons of must eats in New Orleans.

One I would suggest is lunch at Cochon Butcher not far from where you are staying. Get the Gambino.

I will be going for about 4 days in April and it really depends on the time of year, the day of the week, what's going on at the time on the weekends, in particular, and the restaurant relative to reservations. I make mine pretty far in advance because I'm usually there Good Friday until Monday. The next weekend is usually the French Quarter Fest, though I haven't looked to confirm those dates. It doesn't hurt to make early reservations. You can change them if you don't wait too late.

I loves me some Pho, but since you're only in NO on rare occasions, make the meal something specific to Nawlins.

Parkway for shrimp
R&O's or Chateau on the westbank for roast beef.
Bevi if you need both or oyster.

Best pho for me is pho bang on the westbank or Kim Anh's. Neither are near downtown.

Lots of good brunches atchafalya, patois, elizabeth's, appolline, surrey, cafe amelie, coquette, dante's...etc. None of these are must try, but all good.

I'll be there a week. I just plan on doing pho one day at lunch. There will be plenty of other meals while there to get other stuff.

Go to Pho Tau Bay or Tan Dinh one morning for a breakfast of pho. They open early (at least I know PTB does). But really if you love Vietnamese venture out from the bowl of soup.
