Balise
Location: 640 Carondelet St, New Orleans, LA
Chef: Justin Devillier
Projected Opening: January 2015
Delayed from its projected fall opening, Balise is New Orleans chef and Top Chef contestant Justin Devillier's second restaurant. He recently told Eater NOLA that Balise will be "more casual" than his hit restaurant La Petite Grocery. The kitchen will focus on its garde manger cold station, serving up things like escabeche, oysters, brandade, pate, rillettes, and crudite. Last Eater NOLA heard, Devillier was aiming to open the doors in early January but don't be surprised if it gets pushed further back, as PR reps are saying "early 2015."

Shaya
Location: 4213 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA
Partners: Alon Shaya, John Besh
Projected Opening: Winter 2015
Two of New Orleans' major restaurateurs are partnering on a new restaurant together. John Besh is teaming up with chef Alon Shaya, the namesake of the restaurant, who will be taking the lead in the kitchen. The cuisine will be "modern Israeli" inspired by Shaya's Israeli heritage. Per a press release, the cooking will also "reflect the ongoing evolution of Israeli food, while celebrating the abundance of Louisiana." Reps can't give a specific opening date, but say to expect Shaya in 2015's "first quarter."

Treadsack Projects
Locations: 1801 N Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX; 4721 N Main St Houston, TX
Chefs: Graham Laborde, Richard Knight, PJ Stoops
Projected Opening: March 2015
The Houston-based Treadsack restaurant group is bringing three new restaurants "by March 2015" a rep confirms. First up is Hunky Dory, a neighborhood tavern with a kitchen led by Richard Knight. Sharing a building (but not a kitchen) with Hunky Dory is the just-announced Bernadine's, a Gulf Coast-inspired seafood destination headed up by chef Graham Laborde. And then there's Foreign Correspondents, a farm-to-table Thai operation with chef PJ Stoops at the helm.

I'm excited about Hunky Dory and Bernadine's. I was a big fan of Richard Knight and Feast and I like the concept Graham Laborde has for Bernadine's...an Underbelly like menu/style but influenced by the whole Gulf Coast and not just Houston.

So we should probably give each place six months before going for the first time?

Poor Tom.

Just have your wife sell them ad space and then you can go immediately.

Shaya was walking around the block stopping in local businesses giving away his homemade hummus and Pita recipe. I am pumped about this one as it's a stone's throw away from my apartment.

When is this place opening? I thought it was supposed to be last October or something. Has Boucherie even moved yet? I forget to look every time I pass that way.

Yeah spoke with Jared from La Boca about it a few months ago. Sounds like it will be a place that relies heavily on grilled meats, fish, and the like. I got the impression but this is my take not theirs it will be like if Peche and La Boca made sweet love. They were still in heavy construction at this time though. Not sure of opening.

that's sounds like it'll be excellent. Great for that part of town too.

Just had spotters in downtown BR. Its a health food place. It was delicious.
Not sure when it opened but it wasn't open before the break or I didn't know.

No. Still doing the remodel on the new building.
ETA: I would say they have a ways to go.

Bump to avoid starting a thread.
Balise opens tomorrow. A buddy did some of the renovation work and hit the soft opening last Saturday. He said everything was good (He's not much of a foodie). I would like to check them out before a Pelicans game soon. They have some pictures on facebook, and the place looks great. Especially considering how plain Ditcharo's was.
Anyone hear any updates for the menu?
ETA: Also, had lunch at Boucherie last Friday and they said Feb. 10th is the moving day (scheduled). I'm still dubious about Boucherie moving into a strip mall.
