Is the lack of DL/DE recruiting in 2015 similar to the LF approach?

Let's rewind the tape a bit...

We were all puzzled when the staff did not take a running back in the 2013 class...now that we look back on it we know it's because LF was a lock and in the bag. Staff probably did this to guarantee LF's signature to play here.

Are we using the same approach with the D line for 2016? Do the coaches know that by not signing many for this class that it will basically guarantee their commitments here? Alexander, Lawrence and Logan would be the best DT haul in a long time.

yes, i am board with the dead period and probably pumping too much sunshine into this

More so the fact that there are not 2015 DL prospects in state of the same caliber as the 2016 haul

Also, a frosh RB can have a greater immediate impact than a frosh DL. Thats why theres a little more of a need to have a commit or two in 2015 on the DL

But I see what youre saying

Along w/ Trey L. and Bain hopefully. That should be a solid 5 for the 2015 and 2016 and then those 2016 youngsters would be ready for 2017. I wouldn't mind a stop gap juco DT in next year's signing class so we don't have to rely on all youngsters

We've pulled late D linemen several years in a row. Key looks like a good possibility right now. DT doesn't look promising for this class.

DT is not a position of need. We are striking out at DE minus Washington.

Simplest explanation. Occam's razor or something.

If the talent is there, you offer. I don't see the talent in-state for 2015. Offering early playing time for the 2016 will be key. I saw where USCw has offered damn near all of the 2016 DT studs. Hire coach O and close the borders.

Not to mention Frank Herron and Greg Gilmore. Where the heck have they been. They were so highly touted out of highschool and respectable 4 stars. Has LSU just wrote them both off all together? They have not even gotten on the field. Also Mickey Johnson as well.

Unfortunately for us, there have been too many years where the talent was there and we didn't offer, sending the kid packing to play somewhere like TCU, Mississippi State, or Texas A&M.

DT Damien Jacobs
DT Chuck Hunter
DT Tevin Lawson

DE Ryan Brown
DE Julien Obioha

I wish all of these guys had been offered by LSU. Jacobs is already in the NFL. Hunter will be soon. Lawson and Brown were much better than any of our evaluations suggested, and Obioha has been a multi-year contributor at A&M.

Better than having Micky Johnson and MJ Patterson....no offense to those guys.

Trying to beat each other out. One made 4 apps, and the other made 5. If they were one player, that'd be 9 apps and we'd consider him a contributor. My guess is more of the same, unless one player can pass Quentin Thomas.

On a side note, does Lewis Neal move back to DE permanently?

could it be a blessing in disguise though? think about the staff spinning this one to those guys saying that they didn't take anyone to show dedication and confidence in them.

I think Neal moves back to DE permanently now with Valentine and LMFAO at DT. I also think he's going to be really good there.

Don't think it has anything to do with that. We had Kyle Philips and lost him due to uncertainty with Haley. We lost Our chance with Daylon Mack because of the Chavis and uncertainty with Haley situation. We will likely miss out on Arden Key for the same reasons. Definately believe the coaches want and need DL recruits this class, but no one is going to commit with this much uncertainty and only a short time to get to know and feel comfortable with new coaches.

OK let's say zero transfers at DT. Provided we take two per the next two classes

2017 DTs on roster

Greg Gilmore RS Sr
Maquedius Bain RS Sr
Frank Herron RS Sr
Trey LMFAO RS Jr
2016 RSFr
2016 RSFr
2017 Fr
2017 Fr
