He wanted to get a fifth star.

I'm not blaming Guice for doing that, but it's a shame recruits have to play the game that way because that's what the recruiting services want.

This is never an acceptable answer.

Well, it wasn't to go play for a team with a better Offense, so at least that's different....

He didn't really "decommit"... He decided to use his visits.

And I'm not even sure if he did use them but he got what he wanted from it. He wanted that national recognition and reputation, and frankly he deserved it.

But yea it's BS that this is what you gotta do... I mean tbink about. When someone is a solid commit to a school, those sites and services aren't rewlly gonna talk about that player because he's done with his recruitment and theres not much excitement surrounding that player, recruting wise.

You don't commit early, a lot of people are talking about you because you are on the board still and it's a "battle for your signature." You become a more popular player strictly because there are less guys available.... Pretty much the elimination process.

And it's crap. It should be about what the player does on the field. Period.

but that's what sells subscriptions...drama

It's a monster of our own creation.

I've said it 100 times...these sites are a fine balance between entertainment and reality, just as football is. Take everything with a grain of salt and enjoy the ride.

For every 1 of you, there are 10 that are fascinated with the drama.

And by no means am I saying that drama is a large part of a kid's star rating. However, on some subconscious level, if a kid stops putting himself out there, he falls out of the minds of these recruiting guys.

My first thought when I heard his reason was that it was stupid, but when you look at it from a kid's perspective it makes sense. It's a shame that that's how the recruiting site system works but it's refreshing to hear someone actually sort of expose it a little bit.

These Newbies with their want for drama have ruined it.

I miss the good ole days.

I still remember exactly where I was when Amp Hill committed. When Faulk committed, when we almost hired Frank Wilson back in 2002 to ensure Buster Davis and Darryl Johnson.

I remember Saban trying to plea with administration to get Tim Pope in school after he ran his car into his girlfriend's (I believe) house.
