Thief walks off with $250K Blue Dog painting

NEW ORLEANS – A thief walked out of the Rodrigue Gallery on Royal Street with a painting estimated to be valued at Tuesday afternoon, according to the Rodrigue family.
The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. in the 700 block of Royal Street.
The painting, titled "Wendy and Me," depicted Blue Dog artist George Rodrigue as a blue dog wearing a tuxedo and standing next to his wife Wendy. It was taken directly from the wall, according to Andrew Freeman, a spokesman for the gallery.
Freeman said police would review the gallery's surveillance video.
"We are disappointed that someone would brazenly steal such a special piece of art from Dad's retrospective," said Jacques Rodrigue. "We are confident that the hard-working officers of the New Orleans Police Department will safely recover this piece that is so important to our family."
