Cross yet another DC off the list.

This is per Football scoop.

so everyone talks about Smart being a figurehead for Bama's defense because of Saban. Isn't it fair to wonder the same about Durkin re: Muschamp?

I think Durkin called the defensive plays at Florida.

It definitely is. It is unclear how much control he really had over the defense, he had never been a DC before until he got the title under Muschamp.

Meyer hired him away from Harbaugh, seemed like a pretty logical conclusion he would end up at Michigan in some capacity.

You would be correct. He was also a pretty decent recruiter while at UF. Its a very solid hire for Michigan.

Durkin was 86th in the SEC in 247 sports' 2014 Recruiter rankings.

UF only has like 8 commitments right now. Doesn't mean he can't recruit. It was a lame duck situation all the way around.

The rankings I'm referencing are from the 2013-2014 season.

I'm not saying this in regards to Durkin...

But, calling the defensive plays isn't what is most important about a DC.

Implementation of a quality defensive scheme, quality control (ensuring that the players are being coached successfully at the position level), and game planning are most important.

If those 3 things were done primarily by Muschamp (no idea if they were), then the ultimate product would be a product of Muschamp.
