Is "sex slave" the new false rape accusation or sex addict excuse?

I'm not calling out any female in particular with this post, but the term sex slave is popping up more and more in news reports. I'm sure that there are legitimately tons of women that are truly not able to escape their captors and are being sold and/or used in the sex trade business. But the way the media uses this term now, you would think that this is an extremely common occurrence.
Could it be that this is sometimes just being thrown out there sort of like men calling themselves sex addicts? Seems like some of this is just sluts feeling bad about slutting after getting caught.

Eta: I don't think sex slave is a term that's just being thrown around. Maybe more are being uncovered because the stories are intriguing. Although the last one I heard of was the thing in Cleveland..
