I have the 5.7L Crew Max Tundra. Rated to pull 10000+lbs and the bobcat is about 7000 lbs. But wondering if I need a sway control or something else to get it done safely. I've never towed anything over 5000lbs

you need to see what class hitch you have. Either 3 or 4. You may need a WDH for anything over 5000lbs on a class 3 hitch.
If you want to be legal. Check your payload and GVWR and axle ratings. these will be the limiting factors for a half ton truck, not the towing capacity.
Yes your truck will pull it, but the set up may not within the limits published by toyota. The sticker on the door jamb and on the hitch and in your manual will give you the info.
If i was pulling it one or two times a year a short distance and not up/down any steep grades, id do it every time with the proper WDH hitch

forgot about these but that should be a given.
My dad had a 2011 5.7l tundra and had to have trailer breaks added. He also bought a 31' camper weighting 7000lbs because it was "within the tow capacity" and he quickly realized his mistake and now has a 3500 dually.

Available payload, tongue weight, and trailer brakes are what you need to look at - as long as you don't exceed your payload, you are not hauling long distances and have trailer brake controls and brakes on the trailer you are good to go.

How far and how often are the most important questions

If not far, if not often, hook it up and go.

That's a quote from bud the ship pilot.

It's a whole lot of fun when the current is faster than the ship.

It would be a one time pull. From the rental company to about 8 miles away to our lot and then back. No interstate, 45mph max. My father in law has a car trailer that he uses to transport all his classic cars, but I don't think it has brakes, so this may be a no go unless I can find another trailer. They quoted me $300 in delivery charges, which is more than the rental itself, for a 16 mile round trip. I just really want to avoid paying that. Thanks guys.

You should be fine, just keep reciting Vettguy's quote

I've pulled mini excavators and bobcats with my 2008 Z71 1500, 5.3L. Just take your time and I always use the backroads.

I pulled heavier stuff than that with my old v6 Tacoma. You'll be good. Just make sure to load it right so you can still steer

You may have to have a 3/4 ton truck for that.RSC in BR wouldnt rent to me in 2009 when I wanted a T190.I think brakes are an absolute must for this. The pulling part is easy...The stopping part can be tough with that much weight.

This. A corolla can pull it, but it can't stop it.

Remember a tundra can pull the space shuttle

It's controlling that load in all facets is where the proper towing vehicle is important

Man, he's going 8 miles at 45mph. This really isn't that serious. I'd be comfortable pulling 20k with a Tundra that far

Hell will they let you just drive the bobcat home?

Seriously, you should be fine over that short distance.

I pull a bobcat every now and then with 2010 F150 5.4 L 4x4. I go really slow.

Thats not smart. So you are saying that a Tundra will tow a Cat D5 dozer? Thats a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Maybe not but it sounds like the OP is being responsible about it. All it takes is somebody pulling out in front of you or you having to swerve suddenly and you are screwed....especially if you are overloaded.
