Has anyone here used LED light bulbs in their house? I would like more light in my living room and was wondering if LED bulbs are brighter and would help me achieve this? Thanks.

for $9 CREE is legit. yellow/incadescent looking and i'm completely in love with the 60w and 100w versions (which I use in my outdoor dusk/dawn lights) and they can handle the dual 'bright' and 'dim' mode when motion activates them.

for $15 you can get the GE LINK wifi bulbs which will connect up to WINK. i don't think they look as good as the CREEs, so if having a wifi-connected bulb isn't important to you and you don't own a WINK hub, stick with CREE.

The ones I have in my bathroom are as bright as regular incandescent bulbs, but they aren't any brighter. You will see a difference if you are currently using the compact fluorescents

How do the LED bulbs get past the issue with LEDs "spotlighting?"

step 1: go to home depot
step 2: go down bulb aisle
step 3: look at the crees

they looks as natural as an incadescent. no spotlighting.

I don't have LED, but I do have the CFL bulbs that have a higher kelvin rating (5000k as opposed to 2700k) that give off a more crisp white light. Not as bright as LED, but significantly cheaper per bulb, and plenty bright enough for the inside of a house IMO.

These are the types of bulbs I am talking about. I have 4 recessed lights that are a dull yellow light. This and my fan lights are all I have in my living room. I am obviously dumb when it comes to lighting so whatever you guys think is best please let me know. Thanks.

Then get these

ETA: Or at least, I'd get that before dropping the money on LED. But I'm not super techy when it comes to my lights.

I don't like them. I have dimmer lighting and nothing comes close to what an incandescent bulb can offer.

You might want to look into retrofit LED kits for the recesses cans. They sell them at Home Depot

The 5000K Cree bulb is probably what you're looking for.

For recessed lights you could always go this route. That's what I plan on doing.

I replaced all of mine about a year ago with LEDs. 1 burned out but I didn't want to go thru the asspain of changing them out 1 at a time (about 14' up). Seems a little brighter & definitely whiter (probably racist lights).

I bought a light changing pole at home depot last week when two of my bedroom lights went out. It made changing them a whole lot easier than getting my big ladder out.

Can anyone give a simple overview between the LED/CREE bulbs and the CFL ones? I bought a huge stash of regular incandescent bulbs early last year when they were being phased out, and that stash is almost gone. So I'm going to have to start dealing with this.

LED bulbs are fantastic. Stay away from the daylight bullshite and get a few of the good old soft whites.

60 incandescent is about 800 lumins I believe, which is about 6.5 watts from an LED. They are just amazing little things. Put off great light at almost all lumin levels.

I have one also but it doesn't work worth a turd. It was a pain in the arse to unscrew the bulbs BY HAND.

That's equivalent to preferring halogen headlights to HID or LED on a car. I get compliments on the lights in my house almost every time we have people over. I hate yellow lighting.

I assume you're talking cans in the ceiling?

I ordered a bunch from Amazon and they work well.
Note that some are capable of being dimmed and some are not.
