I watched this comedy the other day called Top Five. The funniest part was when someone listed Kanye as one of their top five rappers of all time.

To be fair I don't know of a lot of artists and actors that broke out 40+ years ago.
However, I'm more shocked that people are so willing to expose themselves as idiots on social media rather than just conducting a quick internet search.

Regardless, this type of thing has happened before. When Titanic was re-released to theaters lots of high schoolers were tweeting out that they just found out that "Titanic really happened."

Well, you keep living in that fantasy world of yours. I'm 30 and couldn't tell you something Paul McCartney has done in the last 10+ years.
I would bet you anything most 25 year olds couldn't name all of the Beatles. Just because something seems like common knowledge to you doesn't make it common knowledge for everyone.
